Pundit predicts Phillips’ Leeds future

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former Leeds United midfielder David Norris suggested that Kalvin Phillips could spend the entirety of his career at Elland Road and if that did happen, Whites fans would certainly be delighted.

Speaking to FFC, Norris said:

“We’ve seen it with Kane, he’s stayed with Spurs, it’s his club and he’s a legend with the fans. But his is coming to the end now, if he wants to win something he must move on.

“With Kalvin, it’s still early days, Leeds are progressing, he’s still progressing, so it doesn’t feel like anything needs to be done drastically soon.

“Potentially, depending on how Leeds progress, he could stay there and become a one-club man, with the relationship he’s got. But for now, he doesn’t want to leave, they don’t need to sell.”

After an impressive debut season in the Premier League, and a superb European Championships with England thus far, Phillips has unsurprisingly attracted the interest of some major clubs across Europe.

The 25-year-old is a product of the academy at Elland Road and has made 211 appearances for the Yorkshire club in his career thus far, contributing 13 goals and 12 assists in that time.

Last season saw the midfielder make 29 appearances in the Premier League, managing one goal and two assists, averaging an impressive 7.01/10 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

This was enough to rank him as the fifth-best performer in Bielsa’s squad, so it is clear how important he is to the Argentinian, who, like the majority of Leeds fans, would surely love for him to spend the entirety of his career at Elland Road.

He’s certainly won over BBC pundit Micah Richards during his time in the Premier League thus far, as he sang his praises after his impressive performance against Germany at Wembley recently, saying:

“He’s gone up another two or three levels and his performance against Germany was just sensational.

“When you watch him live in a stadium, you can see there is so much more, how good he is on the ball.

“Phillips is going to be an England player for a very long time.”

It would undoubtedly be a huge boost for Leeds if he were to spend the rest of his career with his boyhood club, as he could be the key to pushing Leeds onto even bigger and better things after their superb first season back in the top-flight. Fans will be buzzing if Norris’ claim comes true

-Fizemos a proteção e consegui treinar. A máscara protege bastante.

Assim poderia voltar no clássico contra o Corinthians.

Ele deve ficar fora do jogo deste sábado.

Trinidad & Tobago retain Under-15 title

Trinidad & Tobago re-asserted their supremacy at the junior levels by lifting the West Indies Under-15 title for the third time in succession, beating Barbados by 31 runs in the penultimate round of the tournament on Wednesday

Staff Reporter04-Apr-2002Trinidad & Tobago re-asserted their supremacy at the junior levels by lifting the West Indies Under-15 title for the third time in succession, beating Barbados by 31 runs in the penultimate round of the tournament on Wednesday. They are scheduled to play another match against Leeward Islands in their final round, but Trinidad & Tobago ensured that game would only be of academic interest. By bowling Barbados out for only 140, the hosts successfully defended their total of 171 and remained unbeaten after four rounds of matches. The home team did not display any scintillating batting, but there were enough minor contributions to take the team to a defendable score. For Barbados, Simone Steele’s 4-17 were the best figures of the match. When the visitors batted, Orman Phillips made 33, but the rest of the batting crumbled against some fine spin bowling. Left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh picked 5-18, and off-spinner Ansil Bhagan took 4-15, the two destroying the Barbados batting line-up in the process.

Rafa Benitez may be stolen from Everton

Everton’s chase for a new manager appears to be in the final stretch, with Rafa Benitez edging closer to an appointment on Merseyside.

What’s the word?

This has been a busy and frustrating week for Toffees supporters as they plea with the hierarchy to appoint anyone but the Spaniard.

Unfortunately, they’ve been dealt some pretty lusty blows, with Nuno Espirito Santo now eyed by Spurs, Christophe Galtier moving closer to Nice and Lucien Favre revealing that he doesn’t want to return to football yet.

However, we should know by now to expect twists and turns. Spurs were on the verge of hiring Paulo Fonseca before a move collapsed at the 11tt hour. Crystal Palace have also experienced similar misfortune, with moves for Nuno and Favre falling through at the last moment.

That eventuality could also occur at Everton, with fresh reports claiming Benitez is being eyed for a vacancy elsewhere.

According to La Nazione (via Sport Witness), Fiorentina are considering the Spaniard as their new manager after gaining cold feet over initial choice Vincenzo Italiano.

Fans should be elated

If the Italian club can convince Benitez to swerve his move to Everton and return to Serie A instead, it would surely leave many Everton supporters delighted.

In the same manner that numerous Spurs fans voiced their concerns over a move for Gennaro Gattuso, many members of the Goodison Park faithful have protested against the idea of Benitez becoming their club’s new manager.

The 61-year-old’s association with the red half of Merseyside has led to worries over his loyalties, with a number of fans growing angry at the very idea that he’s even being considered.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-everton-manager-transfer-nuno-conte-wood-marcelo” title= “Read the latest Everton manager and transfer news!”]

With Nuno, Favre and Galtier all seemingly ruling themselves out of the running for the Everton job, it looked like a foregone conclusion that Farhad Moshiri and co were going to announce Benitez. However, this fresh titbit of information is likely to come as a huge source of hope for those who don’t want the Spaniard at Goodison Park.

This is a crucial summer after the departure of Carlo Ancelotti and, if Everton really want to secure a place in the Champions League, they need to get this appointment spot on.

Benitez has a rich history in Europe’s premier competition, winning it with Liverpool, but his recent managerial jaunts don’t cover him in too much glory.

The Spanish coach was sacked from Real Madrid, and although he got Newcastle promoted from the Championship, a lack of finances held him back in the northeast. A move to China then followed, which perhaps signalled that his best days as a manager were behind him.

At the risk of upsetting their supporters, it would surely be a wise idea for the Everton boardroom to consider other options.

They may well be forced into that situation if Benitez heads to Florence instead. Fan groups will likely be crossing their fingers that he does.

Speakman provides contract update

Sunderland are heading for a disaster as sporting director Kristjaan Speakman has admitted that it will be difficult to pin £270k-rated Charlie Wyke down to a new contract.

What’s the talk?

Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman has spoken about the club’s contract talks with a number of players heading towards the end of their deals, with Wyke being one of them. Speakman has said that it will be difficult for Sunderland to retain some of their players because they have other clubs who are interested in signing them and that makes it tough for him to negotiate extended contracts.

Wyke is out of contract at the end of the month and a host of Championship clubs are reportedly keen on the striker ahead of the summer window. According to Sky Sports Transfer Centre, as per the Nottingham Post, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and Cardiff are all keen on the 28-year-old.

Speakman told Sunderland’s official website:

“It’s always going to be a difficult period because they are players that have done well for us, hence we want to re-engage them.

“But obviously because they’ve done well for Sunderland, there’s other people going, ‘these guys have done well for Sunderland, and we would also be interested in them’.

“It’s going to be a piece of work which we want to try and reduce the timeline as quick as possible, and therefore it helps us on our platform for where we’re going and who we might be looking at in the future months.”

Johnson will be gutted

Lee Johnson will be gutted if Sunderland fail to agree fresh terms with Wyke in the next few weeks. The £270k-rated striker’s impact at the Stadium of Light has been undeniable, with an incredible return of 25 goals in League One as Sunderland missed out on promotion after losing in the play-offs.

Wyke led Sunderland’s attack throughout the campaign and was their main source for goals, with 19 more goals than the second-top scorer in the squad. Grant Leadbitter was Sunderland’s next highest scorer, with seven strikes, and Chris Maguire’s tally of five was the most any of Wyke’s fellow attackers managed. This shows how important Wyke’s goals were to Sunderland and why the beast could be a gigantic loss for Johnson.

Johnson will be losing his most influential attacking threat for nothing if Speakman is unable to pin Wyke down to a new contract. Wyke’s impact could be incredibly difficult to replace in the transfer market as Sunderland will need to avoid repeating their previous mistake with Will Grigg. Sunderland reportedly paid £3.06m to sign Grigg from Wigan to lead their attack, only for the Northern Ireland international to score five goals in his first 38 league matches for the club.

Estou tranquilo. Vou ver o melhor para o meu futuro. Ainda não conversamos nada. Quero jogar e fazer o meu melhor.

Maurizio Sarri could consider Everton job

Maurizio Sarri could emerge as a shock contender for the vacant Everton job, according to reports in Italy…

What’s the word?

Calciomercato.it claimed that the 62-year-old has been in talks with Lazio over becoming their next manager, with the Serie A outfit wanting it finalised before the end of the week, otherwise they’ll move onto other targets.

However, it is thought that the former Chelsea boss is keeping his options open, especially following the availability of the Toffees job after Carlo Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid earlier this week.

The Italian news outlet hints that a move to Goodison Park could be on the cards. It would tie in with previous reports suggesting that Sarri is keen on a return to the Premier League.

Worrying twist

If Everton director of football Marcel Brands and majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri want to get their next appointment absolutely spot-on, then they should avoid entertaining this latest development.

Sarri’s time at Stamford Bridge ended on a sour note, largely thanks to his negative style of football, and that would only leave the Everton fanbase fuming after witnessing an attractive and expansive system under Ancelotti.

The Blues faithful often chanted against ‘Sarriball’ and at one stage, even led to some deeming him a “fraud” whilst his coaching failed to inspire the players on the pitch.

Reports from Spanish newspaper AS (via Football Italia) at the time claimed the former Napoli manager had lost the support of the dressing room’s ‘big names’ for ‘months’ and his relationship with many was ‘irreconcilable.’

Furthermore, third-choice goalkeeper Rob Green once confronted the Italian in front of the whole dressing room, an incident he recalled to The Athletic.

“I just spelled it out. I told him, ‘You have no plan B. You’re a transactional kind of manager,” claimed the veteran. “The players in the group are not the kind to speak to you like this — they care very much but are scared to say something to you, like I am. I don’t care because what are you going to do — drop me!?’”

Sarri has also been slammed as “very stubborn” too.

All in all, it just does not seem like the right move from Everton, and if Brands were to consider the former Juventus manager, then he’ll only risk playing with fire in Merseyside.

Newcastle: Bobby Clark offered to Tottenham

A source from Tottenham Hotspur has dropped a big transfer update involving a wonderkid at Newcastle United.

The Lowdown: Bobby Clark impresses

Bobby Clark, who is the son of former Magpies ace Lee Clark, who made more than 150 senior appearances at St James’ Park, has been impressing at a young age.

Back in November 2019, the Daily Mail reported that a whole host of top clubs in European football, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Tottenham, were interested in signing the then 14-year-old.

The Latest: Tottenham offered Clark

As per Football Insider, according to a Spurs source, the north London club have been offered the chance to sign Bobby Clark, who is now 16 years of age.

He has already been in the media spotlight after breaking records on Tyneside, as he became the youngest-ever player to represent the Magpies at under-18 level at the tender age of just 14 years and 206 days.

Newcastle are now expected to make a decision over the young talent, who has also represented England at under-16 level.

The Verdict: Newcastle must clear pathway

Given how talented Clark appears to be, Newcastle should be looking to clear a pathway for the midfielder so that he sees a future for himself at the Tyneside club.

The Magpies should also be particularly wary of letting one of their brightest prospects go to their Premier League rivals before ever giving him a first team chance.

Wednesday must keep Urhoghide

Darren Moore’s Sheffield Wednesday could be set to lose Osaze Urhoghide this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to the well-connected Yorkshire Live reporter Dom Howson, who recently claimed in a Q&A on the Yorkshire Live website that he is not confident of the Owls being able to convince the 20-year-old centre-back to stay remain at Hillsborough beyond the current season.

He said: “I would like to see them tie Urhoghide down to a new deal but I am less confident now he is going to stay.”

Shaw 2.0

While Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship campaign has been one that most fans would rather forget, one of the few bright sparks coming from Hillsborough this season has been Urhoghide.

Despite the defender’s tender age, since featuring in the starting XI on a regular basis for the Owls back in January, the £270,000-rated youngster has turned in a number of highly impressive performances – earning a SofaScore match rating of 7.3 in the 2-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers, a 7.4 rating in the 1-0 loss to Stoke City and a 7.2 rating in the 2-1 win against Barnsley.

Over his total number of 16 Championship appearances this term, Urhoghide has helped his side to keep three clean sheets and has made an average of 1.6 interceptions, 1.8 tackles and 2.7 clearances per game.

These metrics would be impressive at the best of times, however, considering the former AFC Wimbledon player has been thrown into a side who are fighting for their lives at the wrong end of the Championship table, his performances appear all the more “immense” – to quote Darren Moore.

As such, the loss of such a talented youngster this summer, particularly on a free transfer, would be devastating for Moore and Wednesday fans alike, and harks worryingly back to the deal which saw Liam Shaw agree a pre-contract deal with Celtic back in March.

So, regardless of whether the Owls retain their second-tier status on the final day of the season or not, one of Dejphon Chansiri’s primary concerns this summer should be doing whatever it takes to tie Urhoghide down to a new deal at Hillsborough – although, considering the mess the club is in at present, we would not blame the youngster for wanting to get as far away from Sheffield as possible.

Moore, given how highly he speaks of the youngster and how he’s utilised him this season, will be gutted if the defender leaves for free.
