With a deal to sign Matthijs de Ligt seemingly edging closer and closer, Manchester United have now reportedly set their sights on signing another defensive reinforcement for Erik ten Hag, even taking pole position for his signature.
Man Utd transfer news
Now that Ten Hag's Old Trafford future is sealed, it's no surprise that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and new sporting director Dan Ashworth instantly turned their attention towards reinforcements. And with deals reportedly close for both De Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee, things are starting to come together at Manchester United ahead of a vital third campaign under Ten Hag.
Bayern Munich defender Matthijs De Ligt
Following such a disappointing season last time out, however, the Red Devils will need more than just two fresh faces through the door. Their FA Cup final victory over rivals Manchester City only papered over the cracks of what was ultimately a campaign that centred around United's failure to finish inside the Premier League's top four.
Looking to instantly rectify that next season, likely with De Ligt and Zirkzee through the door sooner rather than later, the Red Devils have been keeping a keen eye on Euro 2024 and one particular standout.

According to Calcio Mercato, Manchester United are now in pole position to sign Ferdi Kadioglu from Fenerbahce this summer as they look to take one of former manager Jose Mourinho's best players in a deal worth just €30m (£25m).
The left-back starred at Euro 2024 in an impressive Turkey side eventually eliminated at the last eight stage by the Netherlands in a narrow 2-1 defeat, and the Red Devils are now "above all" with their interest in the player.
The defeat far from tainted the reputation that Kadioglu built up throughout the tournament, and he still remains an in-demand player this summer. Given how Luke Shaw struggled for fitness last season, welcoming Kadioglu would represent solid business from a Manchester United standpoint as they look to hand Ten Hag much-needed defensive depth.
"Menace" Kadioglu can push Shaw for a starting spot
Competition for places is crucial for any side looking to finish inside the Premier League's top four and competition is exactly what Kadioglu would offer Shaw down the left-hand side.

His presence would push the England international more than ever, especially if Tyrell Malacia needs to ease himself back up to pace after such a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Dubbed a "menace" by Zach Lowy after such an impressive Euros performance, Kadioglu could steal plenty of headlines this summer.
For just £25m, United would be landing a player who could instantly replace Shaw in both the short and long-term at 24 years old and fresh from capturing plenty of attention on one of football's biggest stages this summer.
Southampton aren't messing around now when it comes to incomings joining the building at St. Mary's, with Ben Brereton Diaz's purchase just one of many that could now relocate to the Premier League side this summer.
The Chilean cult hero arrives having scored six goals in just 14 top-flight games in the second half of last season while on loan at Sheffield United, with the one-time Blackburn Rovers man looking to find a settled home after an unsuccessful year in Spain.
Eleswhere, Matt O'Riley's name keeps floating about as an emerging talent who could further strengthen Russell Martin's group in central midfield, whilst rumoured faces such as Armand Lauriente could give the newly promoted Saints more flair down the wings.
Yet, there's another rumoured signing who would be the biggest coup of them all away from the Celtic target and faces joining from abroad, who would cost the Saints a bumper £30m to get through the door.
Southampton interested in £30m man
It's been well documented this summer, from the perspective of Martin's men, that Southampton are interested in trying to secure a deal for wantaway Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
That potential deal looked to only be a loan switch, but as per a new report by CaughtOffside, the South Coast outfit could test the waters over a permanent swoop, which would cost the Premier League new boys £30m to successfully capture the out of favour Gunners shot-stopper and bring him to St. Mary's.
At the moment, both Southampton – and the other interested party from the top-flight in Nottingham Forest – are hesitant to splash such excessive wads of cash on Ramsdale, considering his confidence has been bruised at the Emirates Stadium as of late.
Yet, Mikel Arteta has described his ex-number one 'keeper as "exceptional" in the past and he could more than prove his worth moving to the Saints, especially if he can help play his part in Martin's men staving off the drop.
What Ramsdale would offer Southampton
Southampton's 'keeper situation is somewhat of an interesting one, with Alex McCarthy drafted into the side in-between the sticks towards the latter stages of last campaign, owing to former Manchester City man Gavin Bazunu picking up a nasty knock.
Away from the experienced McCarthy, who has 147 Premier League appearances under his belt, there is a lack of depth in goal, minus the likes of Joe Lumley waiting in the wings, which could be why Southampton are so taken aback by the prospect of Ramsdale now being available.

Before he tumbled down Arteta's pecking order at a rapid pace, Ramsdale was the trusty option in-between the sticks for the Spaniard to rely on, who didn't miss a single game for Arsenal during the 2022/23 season in the Premier League.
Picking up 14 clean sheets along the way, with only 43 goals conceded, the ex-Sheffield United 'keeper would be a coup for the Saints to get their hands on, considering Southampton leaked a dire 73 goals in contrast across their last dismal top-flight campaign whilst Ramsdale starred.
O'Riley entering Martin's camp would also signify that Southampton mean business venturing back up a league, with the electric Hoops midfielder amassing a ridiculous 37 goal contributions last season in all competitions. Yet, Ramsdale has been there and done that near the very top of the elite division away from O'Riley's exploits in Scotland, while prising such a talent from the Gunners would represent a significant coup.
The Saints will hope they can take the Premier League by storm next campaign with these bold purchases, with Brereton Diaz leaving Villarreal behind for a new challenge back in England also catching the eye.
Arsenal'sAaronRamsdalereacts after the match
But, Martin will know his side will have to be defensively sound to stand any chance of staying up, and Ramsdale could offer that in spades, despite his Arsenal career fizzling out.

Sri Lanka fast bowler Dhammika Prasad has announced his retirement from international cricket at age 37.Prasad played the last of his 25 Tests in October 2015, following which a serious shoulder injury impeded his career. Prasad eventually made a first-class comeback, following surgery, but could not quite break back into the national team. Before that injury, however, he was one of Sri Lanka’s premier quicks, remembered with particular fondness for his second-innings 5 for 50 at Headingley in 2014, which led to Sri Lanka winning their first series in England. That was his only five-wicket haul in Tests, but he was nevertheless impressive at home in 2015, taking four wickets in an innings consecutively against India.Prasad finished with 75 Test wickets at an average of 35.97, and also took 32 ODI wickets at 30.50 in 24 games. He has a further 276 first-class wickets, largely for his Sinhalese Sports Club side, whom he has played for since 2002.Rangana Herath, a long-time Sri Lanka team-mate, paid tribute to Prasad’s exploits on Thursday.”We had never won a series in England, and when Dhammika took wickets on that fourth day in Leeds, it set us up for victory and that was a remarkable thing,” he said. “When he and I bowled together, I knew he would be putting pressure on the batsman from the other end – either keeping the runs down, or threatening their wickets.”I also remember something to laugh about. In 2015, when we played India at home, he had a heated argument with Ishant Sharma on the field. At the time we all thought it would be something that went on for a long time. But that same evening, we saw him and Ishant having a coffee together at the hotel. They hadn’t waited for the end of the match – they made up that evening itself.”Marvan Atapattu, another SSC stalwart, and Prasad’s coach in 2014 during that memorable Headingley spell, was also effusive in his praise.”Generally fast bowlers like to bowl with the new ball first thing in the day when the conditions suit them, but Dhammika was someone you could call on anytime,” Atapattu said.”He’d want the ball at all times of the day, no matter what condition it was in. If it was 5pm, and he was bowling with an old ball, and there was a batsman batting on 150, he’d still take the ball, because he wanted to get that breakthrough for the team. Those are rare qualities from a cricketer.”Prasad had spent the last few years attempting to make a comeback for Sri Lanka, but his bowling had not quite been the same since the shoulder injury and consequent surgery. He hopes to play another domestic season for SSC before quitting entirely, though this year’s season may not be played, due to Covid-19.
Looking to seal their latest arrival, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly booked a medical to sign another future star for Ange Postecoglou and his side.
Tottenham transfer news
It's been a summer focused on future stars in north London, with Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall arriving. Both 18-year-old midfielders, the Lilywhites may have installed the heart of Postecoglou's side for years to come. Following an impressive campaign in the Championship with Leeds United, Gray is a particular standout. Following a big-money move, the versatile teenager could make a telling impact at Spurs in the forthcoming season.
After making his first two appearances against Hearts and Queens Park Rangers in pre-season, Gray told Spurs' official website: "It's about getting used to the simple things that my teammates like on the pitch, off the pitch, ultimately, trying to get to know them.
"They’re all brilliant and have helped me so much, especially Pedro at Hearts, I’ve not played centre-back before and he was really helpful for me. Everyone in training as well, not just when we’re playing these pre-season games, on the training pitch every day, everyone is trying to help me, and I really appreciate that. They’ve been brilliant so far."

This would be the Lilywhites’ biggest move of the summer…

He may not have to wait long for another new teammate, either. According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have now booked a medical to complete the signing of Yang Min-hyuk from Gangwon FC. The South Korean winger will reportedly become a Spurs player before re-joining Gangwon on loan until January, when he will finally join up with Postecoglou's side full-time.
Just 18 years old, Yang follows the trend of potential future stars walking through the door in north London so far this summer, joining both Gray and Bergvall.
Yang is an "immense talent"
A player who can play on the left and right wing, Yang may well be the heir to Son Heung-min's place in years to come. The Lilywhites' star man is now 32 years old and is likely to be past his best within the next couple of seasons, handing those in north London with a problem that Yang could yet solve.
Heung-min Son celebrates for Tottenham.
Son is likely someone who Yang has been watching for some time given the Spurs man's role as South Korea's captain, and the youngster could now go on to link up with Son at both club and international level. Described as an "immense talent" by DataMB after scoring eight goals and assisting a further four in all competitions last season, the teenager looks set to make his biggest move yet.
Sunderland will have everything crossed this off-season that they can somehow keep hold of Jack Clarke ahead of the coming campaign, valiantly fending off any suitors interested in their star-man's services as a positive Championship term awaits.
Regis Le Bris will know, even if Clarke does stay put, that the Black Cats need a sprinkling of firepower in the forward positions, having been far too goal-shy last campaign away from the exploits of the ex-Leeds United winger.
Sunderland winger Jack Clarke.
That much-needed quality to lead the line looked to be arriving into the building in the form of SM Caen sharp shooter Alexandre Mendy, but that move has gone somewhat awry, as other options are now eyed up this summer by the Wearside outfit.
Sunderland looking at cheap Mendy alternative
As per a report by Slovenian outlet Planet Nogomet, with this development being further relayed by the Roker Report, Sunderland are one of a number of clubs expected to pounce on Bordeaux's unfortunate bankruptcy as a move for Slovenian striker Zan Vipotnik is considered.
Whoever does end up winning his services, with Hadjuk Split, FC Twente and VFL Bochum named as other interested parties from across Europe, the lucky winner would be gaining Vipotnik for free after his contract with the ex-Ligue 2 team was torn up after the club went out of business.
Slovenia striker Zan Vipotnik.
The Slovenia international will be on the hunt for a new place to call home, therefore, with Sunderland hopeful he will pick England over the other array of potential next onward destinations.
With Mendy's move to the Stadium of Light stuck on hold at this moment in time, the Black Cats might see this swoop as an easier one to get over the line, owing to the 22-year-old's new free agent status.
Starring for Bordeaux before their recent demise, Vipotnik had also managed to garner a reputation for being a reliable striker in the same league as Mendy, but could be snapped up for £0 away from his fellow attacker's bold £4.2m price-tag.
What Vipotnik can offer Sunderland
Le Bris clearly wants to add in top talents from his native country this summer, having come up against these stars in the flesh when he was still Lorient manager, allowing him to get a flavour for how they perform before now swooping in.
Vipotnik managed to bag ten goals last season in all competitions for his now-defunct club, taking his overall career goal tally to 44 strikes from 122 games playing in his home country of Slovenia and beyond.

There is definitely room for the in-demand 22-year-old to develop further and hone in on his skills in front of goal too, with 16 big chances missed for Vipotnik last season, with ten goals an impressive tally overall from just 25 starts.
Only needing 14.2 touches per clash in order to regularly make an impact, the free agent forward could live more up to his billing as a "poacher" – as was handed to him by football talent scout Jacek Kulig – surrounded by the likes of Clarke feeding him chances on Wearside.
The goal above from Nazariy Rusyn last campaign showcases Clarke at his explosive best darting forward for the Black Cats, twisting and turning shirts attempting to shut him out, before finding his Ukrainian teammate to tap home.
Vipotnik could well excel playing in a similar manner, with Rusyn only finding the back of the net a meagre two times last campaign in the second tier, which has left Sunderland hunting for a potent striker.
Sunderland linked striker Alexandre Mendy in action for Guingamp.
This means that Clarke could help Vipotnik to shine by creating high-quality chances for the forward to find the back of the net, which is backed up by his 12 'big chances' created in the division last term.
Mendy's 22 goals in Ligue 2 could well have filled that gap, but with that move taking an age to get over the line, seeking out a cheap alternative in Vipotnik could prove to be a shrewd move to ensure that the Black Cats bolster their strike force before the window slams shut.
Move over Mendy: Sunderland could reignite interest in exciting attacker
Sunderland could well have other striker targets in mind away from Alexandre Mendy.

Everton are interested in completing the signing of a "special" player in a potential £25.6m deal this summer, a new transfer report has claimed.
Everton transfer news
The start of the new Premier League season is now within touching distance, as the Blues prepare to host Brighton on Saturday afternoon. Supporters will be hoping for big improvements on the pitch in 2024/25, and new signings will help in that respect, following the arrival of Jake O'Brien and Jesper Lindstrom, among others.
More additions are needed before the end of the month, however, with attacking firepower still needed, particularly if Dominic Calvert-Lewin secures a move away from Goodison Park. Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has been mentioned as a possible option for Sean Dyche, and his season-long loan move to Marseille has collapsed this week.
At least one midfield signing is also needed, and Kalvin Phillips and Richard Rios have emerged as eye-catching options for Everton, plying their trade at Manchester City and Palmeiras respectively. The former has proven Premier League experience, and could be desperate to prove himself after a tough few years, but the latter is a younger player who is a regular starter for Colombia currently.
Meanwhile, Almeria attacker Largie Ramazani is also thought to be wanted by the Blues this summer, being seen as a similar player to former hero Anthony Gordon. A recent claim has suggested that the 23-year-old is open to moving to Goodison in the coming weeks, acting as a boost for Dyche.
Everton eyeing move for "special" £25.6m prospect
According to a new report from Marca on Monday morning [via Goodison News], Everton are pondering a move for Barcelona youngster Vitor Roque this summer, with the 19-year-old valued at £25.6m.
The Blues intend to try and snap him up before the August 30th deadline in the summer transfer window, with the Catalan giants willing to sell him on loan or permanently, should another club bid the aforementioned amount for him.
Roque has struggled to be a prominent figure at Barca since arriving from his homeland, and he may feel that this summer is the perfect time to be a key man elsewhere having played just 320 minutes of La Liga action last season. Given his long-term ceiling, he could be such an exciting signing for Everton, who still badly need more attacking quality in their squad.
Former Atletico Madrid star Diego has described the teenager as a "special" player, and the fact that he has already won one cap for Brazil, not to mention scoring seven times in 12 caps for the Under-20s, says so much about his ability.

As is the case with so many modern attacking players, Roque is capable of excelling right across the attack – he is at his best centrally – giving Dyche more options immediately. It would feel like a signing of real intent by Everton, even if there is a reason Barca are happy to let him leave, and his South America flair could light up Goodison.
West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing an "exciting" forward on loan ahead of Championship rivals Sunderland, according to Sky Sports.
West Brom’s summer signings so far
On the pitch, the Baggies made the perfect start to the season on Saturday, winning 3-1 away against Queens Park Rangers thanks to a hat-trick from Josh Maja.
Talking after the game, Carlos Corberan hailed Maja but admitted that the Baggies will have to manage his game time after his recent injury problems. “We are always very happy when we see one player, who has suffered a lot, come back to the pitch and for me every player on the pitch needs to play with the maximum concentration to help the team and have a contribution on the result we want to achieve.
“Today, Josh Maja has had a very good level of impact on the game because it is not easy to score three goals, and all three had a lot of quality. But with Josh Maja, after one season without playing many games, we have to manage his minutes well and this is one of the positions we need to strengthen because we need to protect every single player.”
In the transfer market, West Brom have made seven new signings, with only one being a centre-forward in Devante Cole.

Further striker signings could therefore be on the to-do list for West Brom and Corberan, and by the looks of things, they have one target in mind.
West Brom interested in Daniel Jebbison
According to Sky Sports reporter James Savundra, West Brom are interested in signing AFC Bournemouth forward Daniel Jebbison. Sunderland are also keen on the player who joined the Cherries on a free transfer earlier in the window, with a loan move to the second tier seemingly on the cards.
Jebbison, previously of Sheffield United, was praised by AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake after the club secured his services, saying: "We're very pleased to have Daniel sign a long-term deal with us. He has many promising attributes, and has already provided some memorable moments in his young career so far. We look forward to overseeing Daniel continue his development, in an environment which will provide every opportunity to help him fulfil that exciting potential."
So far in his career, the 21-year-old has gained experience in the Football League with Sheffield United and out on loan with Burton Albion, scoring 12 senior goals in 58 appearances.
Now, another loan spell away from his parent club could be on the card, with one of West Brom or Sunderland potentially winning the race for his services.
