Why Shai Hope's Headingley opus may not sustain him much longer

When Shai Hope plays against England, one word comes up more than any other: Headingley. By and large, Hope’s Test career is discussed in terms of one match, in which his twin hundreds led West Indies to a memorable win in 2017. But rather than a springboard, that performance has come to feel like a high-water mark: more than one sixth of his career runs came in that match, and since then his average has been a meagre 24.77. In his last 34 innings, Hope has made two half-centuries. In most Test teams, that would be enough for him to be dropped, but West Indies have rarely had much in the way of competition for places in the top or middle order: across the last three domestic first-class seasons, the only players with over 1000 runs batting in the top four with an average above 40 are the recently-recalled Jermaine Blackwood and 38-year-old Devon Smith. But heading into the second Test against England, things are different. Most of the batsmen performed admirably at Southampton, in the knowledge that Shimron Hetmyer and Darren Bravo – both of whom opted out of this bio-secure tour – will be after their places in West Indies’ next series.Jason Holder has hinted that the ‘engine room’ of him and Shane Dowrich may move up a spot each from No. 7 and 8 at some point in the near future, while Joshua Da Silva did his best to bang the door down with a strong showing in the warm-up matches. So after years of security, the man with the question mark looming over his spot is now Hope.In his pre-match press conference, Holder was reluctant to say whether Hope was under pressure for his spot in the long term. “Going into a Test series you want to give a player as much confidence as you possibly can,” he said. “I don’t look at whether you want to drop and select somebody else.”You’ve got a core group of guys which you give every added confidence and boost to in order for them to go out there and perform. The great thing about this side is that we’ve been together now for a while. One or two players have come in and one or two players have fallen away, but more or less the nucleus of the squad has been the same. All I really want to do is keep encouraging our guys.”ALSO READ: Denly, Anderson, Wood out as England ring changesBut with a lack of Test form to go off, it was instructive that Holder again went back to Headingley and his ODI record to talk Hope up.”Shai is a quality player,” he said. “We’ve seen that particularly the last time he came here in England and then obviously his one-day form has been really good. I’ve got all confidence that Shai Hope will deliver, he just needs to get himself in, get himself going, and he’s going to go big for us.”Hope himself suggested at the start of this tour that his problems had been “more of a mental thing”, but it is difficult to ignore the technical tweaks that he has made in the last three years.

He has made a number of small adjustments since the 2017 tour, and in particular seems to have developed a weakness against length balls in the off-stump channel – one that batsmen can ill afford against the moving ball in England. In his Headingley epic, he took guard on off stump, with his back leg moving slightly towards the leg side in his trigger movement. The risk was that he would fall across his stumps, making him particularly vulnerable to the nip-backer and turning him into an lbw candidate.Since then, he has opened up somewhat, shifting his guard across to middle or even middle-and-leg. Theoretically, that should have opened up scoring options on the off side, with his cover drive in particular. In practice, his intent has not particularly changed, and he has largely been out either caught behind or in the slips, or clean bowled by out-and-out fast bowlers.Against seamers in the last two-and-a-half years, Hope has been dismissed once by a short ball, but his other 15 dismissals have been to length (nine) or back-of-a-length (six) deliveries, against which his averages are 11.66 and 9.33 respectively. In addition, the majority of his dismissals against seamers have been while defending or leaving alone; you might think that his problems have come from being unable to put his elegant drives away, but instead it is his defensive batting that has let him down.It is instructive to look at the difference between Hope’s approach in Tests and ODIs, not least because of the fact no player has a bigger drop-off from their ODI average to their Test averages since the start of 2018; in his case, 61.02 and 19.51 respectively. And there are technical changes too in how he approaches different formats. In West Indies’ ODI series against Sri Lanka earlier this year, Hope had a relatively high backlift, allowing him to snap through the ball and attack, but in the first Test at the Ageas Bowl it appeared to be significantly lower. He has moved back towards the off side slightly in the past 18 months, but whereas he once triggered slightly moments before the bowler’s release, he was very still until the ball had come out of the hand last week. That, along with his tendency to bat outside his crease, proved his undoing in the second innings, when Mark Wood’s in-dipper burst through him as he was late on a loose drive. But whether his issues are technical or mental, the upshot is that Hope heads into the second Test of this series under pressure in a way he hasn’t been before. With competition for batting spots stronger than it has been for years, West Indies no longer need to carry an underperforming batsman like they have in the recent past. The onus, then, is on Hope to shake that tag.

Suggestion Spurs are publicly interested in Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite

A pundit believes that Tottenham are "making it known" they want to sign an up and coming English defender for manager Ange Postecoglou this summer.

Postecoglou admits to wanting new centre-back at Spurs

Back in March, Postecoglou admitted that Spurs will be targeting a new centre-back, despite already bringing in Radu Dragusin to the tune of £25 million in January.

Dragusin joins a defensive contingent of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven at the heart of Postecoglou's defence already, meaning another signing would take the number of star senior central defenders at Spurs to four.

Despite this, Postecoglou claimed that work has already begun on potentially bringing in another centre-back, as well as reinforcing other areas of the pitch.

"If you’re saying, ‘Is it an area we can strengthen?’, yes it’s an area we will probably look at”, Postecoglou on signing another defender.

“With all these things, it’s about trying to strengthen the group as much as anything else. If you think about when I first arrived, we had maybe six or seven centre-backs at the club. So it’s not just numbers. It’s more about the ability of those players to play the football we want and to fit in to what we’re trying to build here.

“I think it is an area of the park we will look to strengthen, but I think we’ll look to strengthen all areas of the park come the end of the season. That is planning that’s already underway, and other people are in charge of it at the moment.”

In terms of the named targets, Bournemouth's Lloyd Kelly has attracted Spurs interest, and it is believed Tottenham made an offer to Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo. This would make sense, as both would be cost-effective given their soon-to-be free agent status.

However, a much more marquee option to be sporadically mentioned comes in the form of Everton starlet Jarrad Branthwaite. After an exceptional season at Goodison Park, the Englishman has been named in Gareth Southgate's provisional squad for Euro 2024, with the Toffees valuing him at around £80 million.

Pundit says Tottenham are making it known they want Branthwaite

Speaking to Tottenham News, pundit John Wenham has shared his belief that Tottenham are "making it known" they want to sign Branthwaite – but admits that there are a few roadblocks in Spurs' way of a potential deal.

“Tottenham are clearly making it known that they are interested,” Wenham said.

“However, I can’t see that deal happening. Central defence is probably where we have our strongest options, whereas United are lacking quality in that position. It would make more sense for Branthwaite to go to Old Trafford, and with the figures that are being brandished, I think United are more likely to sign him.”

Southampton eyeing move to sign "intelligent" £35,000-a-week La Liga ace

After sealing promotion to the Premier League, Southampton have reportedly set their sights on a new forward for Russell Martin, with a La Liga ace now added to the list.

Southampton transfer news

Having defeated Leeds United at Wembley to seal play-off promotion, the Saints can set their transfer ambitions higher than they may have been prior to that Wembley trip, which has already seen a number of names linked.

Among those names, for example, has been Jack Clarke, who took the Championship by storm once again at Sunderland last season. Now reportedly ready to leave, it could be Southampton who benefit.

If last season is anything to go by too, promoted sides must get their spending right this summer. Burnley, Luton Town and Sheffield United all paid the price for summer windows to forget in the end, with all three heading straight back down to the Championship in ruthless fashion. Looking to avoid the same fate, Southampton have seemingly turned their attention towards La Liga.

Southampton could seal "monstrous" ace who'd star alongside Lallana

Southampton won’t be slowing down on the transfer front anytime soon.

ByKelan Sarson May 28, 2024

According to Jack Rosser of The Sun, Southampton are now eyeing a move to sign Ben Brereton Diaz from Villarreal this summer. The Chile international spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield United but has now returned to his La Liga parent club, before potentially heading for the exit door once more this summer.

Having got a glimpse of what the forward can do, the Premier League may get a season-long look at Brereton Diaz's quality if Southampton make their move. After failing to keep Sheffield United up, the former Blackburn Rovers man may feel he has unfinished business in the top flight. With Che Adams yet to sign a new deal at St Mary's too, despite reported new hope, Brereton Diaz could ease Southampton's striker concerns.

"Intelligent" Brereton Diaz can ease Adams blow

Whilst reports suggest that Southampton could yet keep hold of Adams, the Saints would be wise to prepare for the Scot's potential exit this summer, which is where Brereton Diaz could come in. A player with international and Premier League experience, Brereton Diaz, who earns a reported £35k-a-week, is also still just 25 years old and may finally rediscover his best form in a full season in England's top flight.

What's more, the Chile international has certainly impressed since switching nationalities, with former manager Eduardo Berizzo saying via The Lancashire Telegraph: “Brereton is very intelligent in his movement and found himself behind rival defenders several times. He was not given the goal, but he is a footballer with many qualities, he did a great performance despite the fact that his league in England stopped a long time ago."

With six Premier League goals in 14 games on loan at Sheffield United, it's clear that Brereton Diaz has the quality to step up to the Premier League on a permanent basis, potentially going a long way to helping Southampton keep hold of their rediscovered top-flight status.

Sunil Narine stars again with bat and ball in Trinbago Knight Riders' second straight win

Trinbago Knight Riders 136 for 3 (Narine 53, Munro 49*, Mujeeb 1-13) beat Jamaica Tallawahs 135 for 8 (Phillips 58, Seales 2-21, Ali Khan 2-25) by seven wicketsAn incisive new-ball display from Ali Khan and Jayden Seales put the Jamaica Tallawahs into a hole which they could not climb out of as the Trinbago Knight Riders dominated wire to wire in a seven-wicket win on Thursday night. Sunil Narine and Fawad Ahmed continued to keep the Tallawahs pinned down in the middle overs, including a wicket maiden from Ahmed, while Andre Russell failed to launch at the death – scoring 25 at under a run a ball – as the Tallawahs sputtered to 135 for 8.Fidel Edwards produced a wicket maiden of his own for the Tallawahs at the start of the chase, claiming Lendl Simmons with a skied slog to mid-off. But Narine bashed his second fifty in a row to steady the Knight Riders, and teamed with Colin Munro in a 75-run stand before falling in the first over after drinks on a top-edged sweep off Sandeep Lamichhane to deep fine leg for Carlos Brathwaite’s second catch. But Brathwaite grassed two subsequent efforts in the field to sum up a subpar night for the Tallawahs. Munro ended unbeaten on 49 as a wide from Brathwaite down leg clinched the match with 11 balls to spare.Ameri-KhanThe Knight Riders’ favourite son from the USA struck in the first over for the second match running, this time getting a top-edge from Chadwick Walton to swirl into the hands of Ahmed at short fine leg on the second ball of play. Seales then followed that up by trapping Nicholas Kirton on the back leg in front of middle with a beautiful inswinger before Khan induced a mistimed pull from captain Rovman Powell that travelled gently to mid-on where Dwayne Bravo’s tumbling effort made it 19 for 3 in the third over.Glenn Phillips did his best to breathe life back into the innings. He struck five fours and four sixes in his measured knock but his good fortune departed when he whipped a leg stump half-volley from Seales straight to Bravo on the rope at deep backward square leg in the 16th over to make it 99 for 6. Solid death bowling from Khan and Bravo ensured Russell was held in check until he drove Bravo to Munro at long-off to extinguish the last remaining threat.Narine stays hot at the topThe new-age allrounder pounded the boundary all around the ground in his 53 off 38 balls, but perhaps most impressive were a pair of lofted drives over extra cover on one leg against Russell. The left-hand batsman showed his flair with a pair of pirouette punches to clear the off side and leave the Tallawahs flummoxed. For the most part, both he and Munro countered the challenge of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Lamichhane well. Munro took guard well outside off stump to counter Mujeeb’s line of attack that aimed for the wide lines while both Narine and Munro mostly stayed deep to play Lamichhane late with his steady diet of googlies landing short enough to be worked comfortably through the off side. Narine was finally undone trying to go through the leg side against the turn of Lamichhane’s wrong-un, but not before he had put the Knight Riders on course to complete a mostly stress-free chase.

"It’s done" – Richard Keys told Ratcliffe has picked a new Man Utd manager

Manchester United may have already made a huge decision over their manager position for next season, with some inside information on Erik ten Hag's future leaking courtesy of beIN Sports' coverage of Sunday's defeat to Arsenal.

Erik ten Hag under pressure at Man Utd

This has been a dismal season at Old Trafford – one of the worst in the club's history, in fact – with performances in the Premier League embarrassing at times. Sunday's 1-0 loss at home to Arsenal was far from their worst result of the campaign, but it means they have suffered a club-record 14 defeats out of 36 games in the competition, and in truth there looked an acceptance that only losing 1-0 was a good day at the office.

For that reason, Ten Hag is under significant pressure to keep his job beyond the summer, and the fact that so many managers are being mentioned as possible replacements suggests that he is clinging on to his job.

Erik ten Hag

Thomas Tuchel is seen as a leading contender to replace the Dutchman this summer, with the current Bayern Munich boss seen as United's answer to Jurgen Klopp. Graham Potter is also being considered, having not worked since being sacked by Chelsea after a short stint at Stamford Bridge.

The likes of Gareth Southgate and Roberto De Zerbi have also been constantly mentioned as candidates to take charge at Old Trafford, with the former possibly leaving his England post after Euro 2024.

Pundit makes huge Man Utd manager claim

Speaking to Richard Keys on beIN SPORTS [via The Daily Mail], former Liverpool defender Jason McAteer claimed that a current Manchester United player believes Ten Hag is "done" and Southgate will be Man Utd's new manager: "He plays for Man United and I had a conversation with him on Friday, I bumped into him because I live just outside the area.

"We got into conversation, great lad, and I asked him (about the) end of the season and what he thought and he gave me no inclination that the manager was there to stay. In fact we spoke about different names and who we thought will be a good fit and I got no inclination from him."

McAteer added that the player in question "smiled but that wasn't the name" when asked about Tuchel, and gave a "no" regarding Jose Mourinho, before saying "yes that was the name" when bringing up Southgate.

On Ten Hag's future specifically, he claimed: "Footballers have an inclination when the manager's job is on the line and they obviously know and I just got the feeling that it's done, it's done."

It does appear as though Southgate is a genuinely big target for United at this point, but there would likely be a mixed reaction to him coming in. Granted, he has largely done a good job as England manager, but being in charge of an international team is still very different to managing one of the biggest club sides in the world, with the intensity of the job greater on a week in, week out basis.

Southgate has also fallen short in big matches a number of times at major tournaments, arguably being out-thought tactically by other managers such as Roberto Mancini in the Euro 2020 final, and he doesn't have enough pedigree at club level to suggest that he warrants a job the size of the United one.

His relationship with Dan Ashworth could be a reason why Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants him, assuming the Newcastle ace comes in as sporting director, but Southgate feels a long way from being a surefire bet just yet.

£8k-a-week Rangers player who Clement loves could now pen new deal

A Rangers player who Philippe Clement has described as "massive" could now sign a new contract at Ibrox this summer, according to a new update.

Rangers transfers & contract updates

Lots of changes could take place at the Scottish Premiership giants in the coming months, with a host of Rangers stars are out of contract imminently, including John Lundstram and Kemar Roofe, both of whom are expected to leave on free transfers.

Leon Balogun is also in the same situation, but no confirmed decision has been made yet regarding his future. Abdallah Sima and Fabio Silva will see their respective loan moves from Brighton and Wolves end, too, and it remains to be seen if either will be kept on permanently.

John Lundstram for Rangers.

In terms of new signings, Levski Sofia centre-back Jose Cordoba is reportedly close to arriving at Ibrox, being seen as an upgrade on Ben Davies, with a medical even taking place. Ferencvaros attacker Adama Traore is also considered an option, with the 28-year-old compared to Kylian Mbappe in terms of pace.

It does look as though attacking reinforcements are at the forefront of Clement's thinking this summer, with Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovksi also linked with a move to Rangers. Celtic are providing stern competition, though, so the Gers could potentially turn to boyhood supporter Lawrence Shankland, who has excelled so much at Hearts this season.

"Massive" Rangers player could sign new deal

According to The Daily Mail, Balogun could now sign a new deal with Rangers this summer, extending his stay at Ibrox for another 12 months:

"Leon Balogun is poised to sign a one-year contract extension at Rangers. The veteran defender is believed to have verbally agreed to remain part of Philippe Clement’s plans for next season, with the formalities being tied up behind the scenes. Balogun only played 19 games in total last term, but the German-born Nigeria international did enough to convince the manager he is worthy of consideration beyond his 36th birthday next month."

Leon Balogun

This could be such a shrewd piece of business by Rangers in the summer, even though Balogun is now 35 years of age and not a player who represents the long-term future. Clement himself is a big admirer, which suggests he wants him to stay on, with the Gers manager saying earlier in the season after a great performance against Hearts: "I think he [Leon Balogun] was massive today.

"He played a really good game in the coaching and in the duels with his hunger and desire, so I know I have four really good centre-backs and this season they have all played."

The £8,000-a-week veteran has so much experience in his career now, racking up 84 appearances for Rangers as well as enjoying spells at various other clubs, and keeping him for one more year could be ideal next to Cordoba, allowing him to guide the younger defender along and ease him into life at Ibrox.

Rangers pushing to sign 28 y/o with more career goals than Sima this summer

The Gers are in advanced talks.

ByHenry Jackson May 27, 2024

A longer-term deal would have been a bad move, but having Balogun around until 2025 makes perfect sense, and him bowing out with a league title would be a perfect way for his time at Rangers to end.

Celtic hit gold with "magnificent" star who’d be worth £20m in 2024 money

Celtic attacking midfielder Matt O'Riley collected multiple trophies at the club's end-of-season awards night at the weekend after a sublime season from the star.

He won the Young Player of the Year, Men's Player of the Year, and Men's Players' Player of the Year awards for his contributions on the pitch this term.

It will now be interesting to see whether or not the Hoops can keep hold of the Denmark international, who was recently named as a player of interest to Italian giants Inter.

Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley.

The Bhoys have made a profit on a number of players, who O'Riley could join this summer, over the years and one star they hit the jackpot with was goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

How much Celtic paid for Fraser Forster

The towering stopper initially joined the Hoops on loan from English Premier League side Newcastle United in the summer of 2010 and spent two seasons on loan from the Magpies.

In the summer of 2012, Celtic completed a reported £2m deal to sign the goalkeeper on a permanent deal from the English team, and then-manager Neil Lennon claimed that he would be a "magnificent" signing for the club.

As you can see in the table above, his form over his two seasons on loan with the Scottish giants warranted them making a move to sign him permanently.

He caught the eye with a staggering 42 clean sheets in 69 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, conceding just 42 goals for the club in that time.

How much Celtic sold Fraser Forster for in 2024 money

After two more years with the Hoops, Forster's performances in Scotland were impressive enough to draw in interest from Premier League side Southampton.

When you adjust for the inflation of transfer fees in football over the subsequent years, per Totally Money's index, then the £11.2m the Saints paid to sign him in the summer of 2014 would be worth a staggering £20.2m in today's (2024) money.

This shows that Celtic hit the jackpot with Forster as they made a significant profit on the initial £2m they paid Newcastle to sign him, making £9.2m, and the fee they raked in from Southampton would be worth a huge £20.2m in the current day, which speaks to how expensive the deal was at the time.

Fraser Forster for Tottenham

The England international, who now plays for Tottenham Hotspur, later enjoyed another season on loan with the Hoops, from the Saints, during the 2019/20 campaign and has racked up 118 clean sheets in 234 appearances for the club in all competitions to date.

Forster was, as shown by the aforementioned statistics, a clean sheet machine for the Scottish giants with more than one shutout every other match on average.

Chris Cooke digs in to steer Glamorgan to safety on final day

Captain bats for four-and-a-half hours to deny Gloucestershire

Glamorgan were grateful for the second successive game to their captain Chris Cooke, whose unbeaten half-century carried his side to a draw against Gloucestershire.Glamorgan had slipped to 138 for 8, a lead of only 73 with plenty of overs remaining, but Cooke was at the crease for four-and-a-half hours in compiling 59, and was given solid support by No.10 Tim van der Gugten, who was 30 not out. They survived despite the sterling efforts of Gloucestershire’s two left-arm seamers David Payne and Matt Taylor, who excelled throughout – with Payne taking eight wickets in the match. Glamorgan had a lead of 132 with 13 overs remaining when the teams shook hands.Had the first day not been lost to rain, there could have been an interesting finish as the ball dominated the bat throughout, with still plenty in the pitch for the seamers while the odd ball turned.Glamorgan began the final day 65 runs behind and with all their wickets intact, but Matt Taylor soon got to work by taking two wickets in his opening two overs. Charlie Hemphrey, whose place must now be in doubt after scoring only 72 runs in six completed innings, was out lbw.He was quickly followed by Kiran Carlson, who was dismissed in similar fashion, as he shuffled across his stumps to a ball that came back into him. The two wickets had fallen without any addition to the overnight score.Nick Selman stood firm, alternating between attack and defence, and was developing a useful partnership with Billy Root, one of the few Glamorgan batsmen who has been in any sort of form this season. But after scoring 13, Root was out to one of the slip catches of the season, taken by George Hankin at second slip.Root dabbed at a delivery intended for the third man area, before it was intercepted by the fielder who dived to his right and held on in front of first slip.Selman, who also been short of runs this season, completed a responsible half-century, but after adding a further five runs was leg before to Ryan Higgins, in what was the last ball before lunch as play was interrupted by a heavy shower. When Payne dismissed Dan Douthwaite and Graham Wagg in quick succession, and Kieran Bull was bowled by Graham van Buuren in his first over, Glamorgan had slumped to eight down, but van der Gugten, who the previous day had dislocated his finger, gave his captain staunch support. He joined his captain in the 67th over, to remain there for a further 24 overs as Gloucestershire’s hopes receded.

Still no IPL 2020 schedule as Covid-19 protocols in Abu Dhabi raise concerns

The franchises had earlier been told to expect the fixtures list by August 20

Shamya Dasgupta26-Aug-2020With just over three weeks to go for the start of IPL 2020, there is still no clarity on the schedule of the 60-match tournament, to be played across the UAE. The delay in announcing the fixtures list – which the franchises had been told to expect by August 20 – stems from Covid-19-related travel restrictions between the emirates. There has been a spike in infection cases in the UAE, and mandatory checks have been ramped up at the border, making travel into Abu Dhabi more time-consuming than before. ESPNcricinfo understands that the IPL Governing Council members who are in the UAE have been speaking to officials of the Emirates Cricket Board – headed by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE’s minister of culture, youth and social development – to try and get the matter resolved urgently. It’s not only that the tournament is likely to be split – the plan is to host 21 of the 56 group-stage games each in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and 14 in Sharjah, with the playoffs in the first two emirates. In addition, Abu Dhabi is the base for two teams, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians, who will have to cross the border several times.Though officials of the BCCI and IPL Governing Council have so far not commented on this, it seems to be no more than a matter of logistics, of synchronising team travel schedules so they comply with Covid-19-specific border entry regulations. Matt Boucher, the CEO of Abu Dhabi Cricket, believes the border issue, however, should not be too big a problem if everyone concerned follows the protocols put in place by the BCCI (for the event) and of the UAE government.”At the border, it’s either a DPI test or a PCR test, and it’s purely to protect the population of Abu Dhabi. Many hundreds of people are using the border every day, and it’s certainly not a hassle or an issue,” he told ESPNcricinfo. “It just has to be, of course, tailored into the event schedule with rotational testing. But the teams need to be tested in accordance with the protocols of the event, the UAE government, and the BCCI protocols for the event. And if those are in line with the testing procedures at the border, then the facilitation will take place.”The way the UAE authorities want it to work is for all team members – players and anyone else travelling into Abu Dhabi – to return negative tests 48 hours before they get to the border. After that, with VIP lanes and police escorts in place, the delay shouldn’t be as much as some people fear, Boucher felt.”If Sunrisers Hyderabad is staying in Dubai, and playing in Abu Dhabi on a Wednesday, the team rotation for that test needs to take place 48 hours before they travel to Abu Dhabi. And they can then travel seamlessly back to Dubai. It shouldn’t be a sticking point.”The match schedule and the testing of the players need to be aligned. It’s not an easy task, it needs to be thought out, it needs to be calculated, but the safety of the players and others is the most important thing. It’s not an international border, it’s a safety mechanism.”Similar logistics will apply for the Abu Dhabi-based teams, Boucher said. “For example, if Mumbai are playing in Dubai on Wednesday, then 48 hours before that match they need to have the PCR test to return from Dubai. That will be facilitated by a VIP lane and Dubai police escorts and Abu Dhabi police escorts. Upon their return to the Abu Dhabi border, the police will already have all the negative test reports, and they will seamlessly come through the border via a VIP lane.”There have also been murmurs of some teams not being happy about playing games in the afternoon heat, with matches starting at 2pm local time – ten double-headers had tentatively been penciled in by the IPL Governing Council when they announced the decision to shift the tournament to the UAE. Whether that is still a sticking point or not remains to be seen.
