Tottenham may now sell new name in "important" £100,000-a-week mainstay

Tottenham could now look to sell a new name who hasn't been linked with the exit door until very recently, with lots of Spurs players facing uncertain futures.

Spurs open to offloading over a dozen players this summer

According to reliable Spurs source Paul O'Keefe, the club have identified over a dozen players they'd be willing to entertain bids for when the transfer window reopens – with manager Ange Postecoglou already beginning to swing his axe ahead of 2024/2025.

The most obvious names who stand out are Bryan Gil, Giovani Lo Celso, Troy Parrott, Joe Rodon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Richarlison, Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon, Japhet Tanganga, Manor Solomon and Djed Spence – who have all been linked with Spurs exits at some point within the last six months.

A good portion of the aforementioned crop are currently out on loan elsewhere, and decisions will have to be made. Leeds are apparently keen to keep Rodon beyond his loan spell, while the likes of Spence and Reguilon are not in Postecoglou's plans moving forward.

It is pretty frank that chairman Daniel Levy will listen to offers for Ndombele and Tanganga as well, with the former set to go down as one of the biggest transfer flops in Spurs history and latter's contract expiring next year.

In terms of current squad members, it is now believed Tottenham are willing to sell Emerson Royal for around £20 million, with Spurs also ready to entertain £15 million bids for Gil.

Given that over a dozen are up for the Spurs chopping block, you cannot rule out more squad members being mentioned, and a new head-turning nominee for the transfer list has emerged this week.

Tottenham now willing to sell Yves Bissouma this summer

Indeed, mainstay midfielder Yves Bissouma is now thought to be unsafe. The Mali international has made 27 Premier League appearances under Postecoglou, with 25 of them being full starts. It would arguably be more if it wasn't for the mid-season Africa Cup of Nations as well.

Yves Bissouma for Tottenham

His form has somewhat tailed off compared to early on in the campaign, though, with The Times claiming Tottenham are willing to sell Bissouma if a suitable offer arrives for the midfielder. This would be disappointing for teammate Pape Sarr, who spoke of the £100,000-per-week ace's importance.

“It really was a big help,” said Sarr on Bissouma's infuence at N17. “I was settling in to a new life, not just a new club. I benefited from the advice of a lot of team-mates, not just Yves, although he was a big help: Hugo Lloris, Pierre Hojbjerg, Ivan Perisic. It was a tough time because I wasn’t playing regularly.

“Yves is a guy I appreciate a lot. We’ve both come over from Africa and he gives me lots of advice. He behaves a lot like my big brother. He has such an important role within the team and the club. I always listen to what he’s got to say."

Fortaleza e Ceará vivem situações opostas no início do Brasileirão

Man Utd plot £60m Onana replacement available way below his release clause

Manchester United could be on the hunt for a new no.1 this summer just 12 months after signing Andre Onana for £50m, it has been reported.

Onana struggling at United

Andre Onana's time at Manchester United has, by his own admission, been poor. The Cameroonian goalkeeper's arrival was heralded as a major upgrade on David de Gea, and while that has proved the case with the ball at his feet, question marks remain about his actual ability to keep the ball out of the net.

"It was a difficult time for me", the goalkeeper explained, "It took me six months or seven months not to play good just to feel good."

But the four goals that flew past him at Selhurst Park meant that he has now conceded 81 times in all competitions this season, which is a Manchester United record since the Premier League era began, and one that neither the squad nor Erik ten Hag can be proud of.

He also made a flurry of mistakes in the Champions League, which ultimately saw his side finish bottom of their group and exit the competition at the first hurdle.

With three games left of the season, and Premier League title-hopefuls Arsenal up next, it is conceivable that Manchester United miss out on European football altogether for next season, while the best case scenario appears to be a spot in the Europa League.

But with the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, big changes seem set to happen this summer, and one of them could well be between the posts. It had previously been mooted that Manchester United were once again keeping tabs on long-term target Diogo Costa, but now a new name has entered the fray.

A new no.1 on the way?

Now, reports in Spain have linked Manchester United with a move for a new no.1, in the shape of Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro. The Spaniard has enjoyed another fruitful season in Sociedad, keeping 13 clean sheets and helping his side to a Europa Conference League spot as things stand, though they will need to hold off in-form Real Betis in the final games of the season to ensure that they keep it.

Ratcliffe pushing as "brilliant" manager now the new top target at Man Utd

They may finally have found their replacement for Erik ten Hag this summer.

ByBen Browning May 8, 2024

And his performances have not gone unnoticed, with Marca claiming that the Red Devils are interested in the 29-year-old and could line up a move for him should they decide to move on from Onana.

The shot-stopper has a release clause set at a massive 70m euros (£60m), but no-one is expecting him to move for anything like that amount should a deal materialise, though it is unclear to what extent United chiefs will be able to haggle that down in negotiations.

With Ten Hag's days at the helm seemingly numbered, the players he has backed could face tough futures at Old Trafford too, with Ratcliffe and Co seemingly plotting immediate replacements for some his underperforming stars.

Interim Cricket Australia chief Nick Hockley calls for unity after redundancies

He said the game is “by no means broken” ahead of the challenge of pulling the summer together

Daniel Brettig18-Jun-2020On Tuesday, Nick Hockley was named as Cricket Australia’s interim chief executive in the wake of the deposed Kevin Roberts. On Wednesday he was jointly presiding over the awful task of making 40 employees redundant from the governing body. And on Thursday he was speaking for CA on radio, stressing the importance of unity in the game.As the T20 World Cup local organising body’s chief executive, Hockley had a seat at CA’s executive table, so was close at hand to watch the chaos that unfolded from the moment Roberts and the CA board chose to announce mass staff stand downs in April while seeking deep financial across the game.Highly rated by his own staff, Hockley was seen as the ideal interim while CA went on a more extensive search for the next long-term chief executive. But he has been left with the unenviable task of patching up staff, state and player relationships in the decreasing amount of time available between now and the start of a summer that must be run as effectively and efficiently as possible in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.ALSO READ: Timeline: Three months that brought down CA chief Kevin Roberts”It’s been an extremely difficult time, this week even more so,” Hockley told . “Yesterday we had to let go some really, really great people, but it’s all about getting the team back to work, reaching out to the states and territories and the ACA. We are so much stronger together.”We’ve got a huge amount to look forward to with India coming. In very difficult circumstances it’s a massive privilege to be asked [to take the role]. I’ve been in the game here for eight years, I care deeply about the people. It’s by no means broken.”In many respects we’ve been extremely fortunate compared to other sporting codes with the timing of Covid-19. Australia are world champions three and a half months ago, rank No. 1 in four out of the five ICC ranking formats, we’ve got India coming, we’ve got the World Cup, we’ve got the Ashes the following year. There is so much to look forward to and really it’s about pulling together.”ESPNcricinfo LtdHockley recalled the week after the wildly successful women’s T20 World Cup final, watched by more than 86,000 spectators at the MCG, as the moment in which all plans were thrown into chaos, and sympathised with the highly conservative course of action taken by Roberts and the CA board chaired by Earl Eddings.”I was there with a seat at the table in those deliberations, from the perspective of making sure that the World Cup was integrated in terms of contingency planning and we’re all working together on the best measures around restrictions and things,” he said. “And really the world fell off a cliff, it was pretty much that Monday or Tuesday after the final, and no-one really knew what it meant. But the situation has been evolving, and the measures we announced yesterday I think are prudent and necessary in the circumstances.ALSO READ: T20 World Cup ‘unrealistic’ and ‘unlikely’ this year – Cricket Australia chairman”Things like standing down the majority of the staff, which has just been extremely painful for a lot of people, that’s enabled us to conserve funds, enabled us to really minimise the redundancies we’re having to make moving forward. We’ve just got to be so thankful that in Australia we’re getting sport back, we’re getting crowds back and that’s really my focus now.”The speed at which Hockley’s appointment arrived, after Roberts’ exit was not formalised until late on Monday night, has left many areas unaddressed, such as who will take the reins of the T20 World Cup itself, and whether he will be a contender for the longer-term role – an unlikely possibility though there is every chance Hockley will finish up as a CA executive. What Hockley can promise, as a seasoned stager of major events, is a strong degree of skills in getting a show on the road. He was, after all, the runner of the most recent show.”One thing I know having worked on the World Cups, you can’t deliver a major event on your own. It requires all the states and territories, the venues, the broadcasters, the partners, everyone all coming together, and together one plus one equals more than two,” he said. “I see this immediate time now as making the most of what we’ve got. We owe that to the fans, we owe that massively to those people who we had to stand down yesterday.”

Dyche hands out full PL debut in predicted Everton lineup vs Liverpool

Everton took a huge leap towards survival at the weekend, beating fellow relegation-threatened side Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

Sean Dyche's side claimed all three points after brilliant efforts from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil, in a result that saw the Toffees move five points clear of the drop with five games remaining.

The victory was only the Toffees' second win in their last 16 league outings, but a crucial one nonetheless in their bid to maintain their ever-present Premier League status.

Everton have a huge clash against local rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park this weekend, with one player needing to be dropped from their last outing if they are to claim back-to-back wins.

Midfielder Andre Gomes was handed a rare start against Nuno Espírito Santo's side at the weekend, but only managed to feature for 67 minutes, winning just 14% of his duels – with the Portuguese playmaker needing to be replaced to allow another Everton player to impress.

With that being said, here's a look at the Toffees' potential starting XI to face Liverpool…

1 GK – Jordan Pickford

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

If the club do stay up this season, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford will deserve huge credit, with the England international saving Dyche's side on more than one occasion.

The 30-year-old has kept ten clean sheets in the Premier League this season, with his impressive tally only bettered by Arsenal's David Raya.

2 RB – Ashley Young

Despite being 38 years old, Ashley Young has been an important part of Dyche's side in recent weeks, starting 23 games in the Premier League for the Toffees.

The injuries to Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson have seen the experienced asset feature at right-back, but he endured a tough afternoon against Forest on Sunday.

He was at the centre of controversy on three occasions, with two fouls and a handball not given – to the outrage of the opposition. Undoubtedly, he was unlucky to get away with at least one of the decisions, but given the injuries, he is set to start once again this evening.

3 CB – Jarrad Branthwaite

The 21-year-old has had a brilliant campaign for the Toffees, with his sensational form not going unnoticed, with the former Carlisle United youngster receiving an England call-up during the previous international break.

Branthwaite has started 30 out of 33 Premier League matches during 2023/24, with the ace set to continue his long-standing partnership with James Tarkowski at the heart of the club's defence on Wednesday.

4 CB – James Tarkowski

everton-james-tarkowski-premier-league

The second half of Everton's long-term centre-back partnership is James Tarkowski, with the 31-year-old starting every single league match under Dyche this season.

He's played a crucial role in Everton's defence, which is the fourth-best in the division behind Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal. However, he and Branthwaite may have their work cut out against a Liverpool side who boast the Premier League's third-best goalscoring record.

5 LB – Vitaliy Mykolenko

vitaliy-mykolenko-everton-premier-league

The Ukrainian left-back produced a quality display against Forest at the weekend, with the 24-year-old winning all the tackles and ground duels that he contested during the victory.

He's nailed down the left-back position in recent months, with the full-back one of the first names on Dyche's teamsheet alongside the likes of Pickford and Tarkowski.

His good form will need to continue on Wednesday, with the Ukrainian tasked with keeping clinical forward Mohamed Salah quiet, with the Egyptian forward the joint-fifth top scorer in the top flight this season.

6 RM – Jack Harrison

Everton's loan forward Jack Harrison.

The Everton loanee started his first game since the end of March in the victory on Sunday, with the winger impressing with his direct dribbling as he completed two dribbles throughout the encounter.

He's started 22 games in the Premier League this campaign, scoring on three occasions, with the 27-year-old hoping to add to his tally against the club's bitter rivals.

7 CM – Idrissa Gueye

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye

Experienced midfielder Idrissa Gueye has often been the man to feature in the middle of the park for the Toffees this season, with the Senegalese crucial in ball-winning for Dyche's side.

However, he excelled in forward areas against Forest at Goodison, with his brilliant strike from distance catching 'keeper Matz Sels off guard and finding the bottom corner.

He's excellent at breaking up the play, with his qualities needed against a Liverpool side that will undoubtedly dominate the ball in the Merseyside derby.

8 CM – James Garner

Everton midfielder James Garner.

Despite dropping to the bench for the clash against his former side, the one-time Manchester United youngster should be recalled to the starting lineup for the meeting with Jurgen Klopp's side.

His relentless pressing game coupled with his fantastic passing ability – as shown by his 82% pass completion rate – make for a great combination alongside the experienced Gueye at the heart of Dyche's two-man midfield.

9 LM – Dwight McNeil

Everton winger Dwight McNeil.

After scoring his first goal for Everton since December, the winger has the opportunity to build on his display at the weekend. His fantastic strike secured the win for the Toffees, with the fanbase hoping he can produce a similar feat on Wednesday.

The derby game may potentially give the wideman an added incentive to add to his goalscoring record this season and help push the Toffees further clear of any looming relegation threat whilst putting a dent in the Reds' title ambitions.

10 CAM – Abdoulaye Doucoure

Everton midfielderAbdoulaye Doucoure.

Although midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has been impressive for the Toffees this season – scoring six goals – he's yet to add to his goalscoring tally in 2024.

His last Premier League goal for the club came way back in the 2-0 win over Chelsea back in December, with Doucoure currently enduring an 11-game goal drought.

However, he's still one of the club's most potent goal threats, with Dyche set to stick with the Malian midfielder for the huge clash at Goodison Park.

Reporter shares what he’s now heard on "incredible" Newcastle ace’s future

After failing to make it back-to-back top four finishes in the Premier League, Newcastle United are reportedly set to make a ruthless decision at St James' Park this summer.

Newcastle transfer news

PIF certainly aren't messing around ahead of the summer transfer window, with an agreement reportedly reached to sign Lloyd Kelly on a free deal and the same deal being targeted for Tosin Adarabioyo. The two free agent arrivals will ease Eddie Howe's depth problem at the back and should go a long way in covering for the injured Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles.

Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo

It's not all incomings news, however. Reports suggest that Bruno Guimaraes could yet leave in what would deal the Magpies a major blow this summer. The Midfielder is undoubtedly one of, if not the most important player under Howe and losing him to a top four rival would leave Newcastle in a perilous position when chasing the European spots.

Newcastle set to ignore Howe choice with first move for "fantastic" player

A frustrating choice for the Magpies boss.

ByTom Cunningham May 15, 2024

Whilst PIF are reluctant to let Guimaraes leave though, the same can't be said for Callum Wilson. According to Craig Hope, Newcastle now want to sell Wilson this summer amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

Hope said, via Geordie Boot Boys: “It has long been my information now that Callum Wilson will move on this summer. One year left on his contract, 32-years-old, and because of those issues with selection.

"The hierarchy have taken the view that the time has come, while there is still value in the player, while they may get £5million to £10million. There has been talk of Saudi Arabia, a move abroad. I think that makes sense for the club. I can see why the club are looking at this.”

Those at St James' Park now look increasingly-likely to clear Wilson's reported £46k-a-week salary from their wage bill, whilst adding to their summer spending budget in the process.

"Incredible" Wilson still needs replacing

Newcastle may be ready to sell Wilson, but that doesn't mean they don't need to replace the former Bournemouth forward should he secure his departure this summer. As things stand, with only Alexander Isak up front, Howe will be left searching for makeshift options without the back-up of Wilson next season. Finding a younger, but similarly clinical option to step into the forward's role should be one of Newcastle's summer priorities.

Reports suggest that PIF are well aware of that too, with links recently emerging to Youssef En-Nesyri who certainly ticks the aforementioned boxes. It will take quite the player to win Howe over the way Wilson did, however, given how the two worked together at Bournemouth and then at Newcastle.

The Magpies boss rarely hid his praise for the forward, telling Sky Sports: "He's been incredible and I feel that his performance was right up there with one of the best I've seen him play, purely from a tactical perspective. He has to lead the press and the one we bounce off initially. He kept going right until the end and his goalscoring record is excellent."

Szoboszlai benched in predicted Liverpool lineup vs Fulham

Jurgen Klopp's reign at Liverpool has seen both peaks and valleys, but there is an ominous sense that the lionised manager's final few weeks on Merseyside will be categorised by misery and rueful resignation.

Failing to defeat Manchester United in commanding positions across recent trips to Old Trafford in the FA Cup and Premier League has unravelled Liverpool's thrilling campaign like a loose kite in the wind, with the buffeting struggles of the past few weeks resulting in successive Anfield losses against Atalanta (in the Europa League) and Crystal Palace (in the top-flight).

The Carabao Cup was won in February in what seemed like a galvanising tone-setter for the months to come, with the Reds fighting with such fervour amid persistent injury blows to fire on all cylinders. After overcoming such obstacles, Liverpool have inexplicably collapsed.

At Craven Cottage on Sunday, against Fulham, Klopp simply has to spark his team back into life, with Manchester City starting the weekend two points clear of their two contenders, with Arsenal also falling to an unexpected defeat last weekend.

Liverpool have an unusually near-clean bill of health, though Conor Bradley continues to recover from an ankle injury that will keep him out for a few more weeks.

Klopp has to rebound from the midweek Europa League exit against Atalanta, where the Merseysiders sparked spark and initiative, and might make three changes to the starting XI.

1

GK – Alisson

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Alisson's return from injury has come at the perfect time for Liverpool, even if he has not quite had the happiest of returns over the past few games.

The Brazilian is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world and is marginally behind Alphonse Areola in the most reliable shot-stopper in the division, having saved 75.3% of the shots faced this season (Areola has saved 75.8%).

2

RB – Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool might have won at Atalanta on Thursday but the damage was done and it was a bleak performance, lacking the electricity and snap that was needed. Trent Alexander-Arnold's return to the starting line-up was a bright spark though.

The inventive right-back is always looking to make things happen and will provide his profligate forwards with everything they need to rediscover their shooting boots, hailed as a creative "genius" by reporter Neil Jones.

3

CB – Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool ace Ibrahima Konate.

Ibrahima Konate has done a superb job this season after Joel Matip's season was cut short by injury back in December, but the France international has been guilty of some poor performances recently.

He will need to have his wits about him against in-form shooter Rodrigo Muniz.

4

CB – Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk.

Virgil van Dijk has cut a disconsolate figure over the past few matches but he called for the fans to rally around the squad on Thursday night and, if Liverpool are to turn things around, he will be at the heart of the success.

5

LB – Andy Robertson

Andrew Robertson celebrates for Liverpool.

Possibly Liverpool's best performer throughout this recent poor patch, Andy Robertson will be crucial against Fulham, pumping energy and creativity into the team.

It's been a bit of a stop-start campaign for the Scotland skipper, but he's returning to his best recently and could be the catalyst on Sunday.

6

DM – Wataru Endo

Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo

Wataru Endo signed for Liverpool from German side Stuttgart in a surprise £16m deal last summer, after missing out on Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo to Chelsea, and while he's largely been fantastic, the Japanese's recent showings have left much to be desired.

Still, he must anchor the midfield against the Cottagers, doing the groundwork for a few other midfielders to supply the forwards ahead of him.

7

CM – Harvey Elliott

Liverpool player Harvey Elliott.

Dominik Szoboszlai has fallen by the wayside, and while he can pick himself back up, he must be ditched for Harvey Elliott in this one, with the dynamic midfielder more than deserving of a spot in his favoured position.

The 21-year-old is truly a first-class prospect and has started to prove why he can play a lasting role in this Liverpool team, having been described as a "special talent" by The Athletic's James Pearce.

8

CM – Alexis Mac Allister

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

Alexis Mac Allister has been a monster of a signing for Liverpool and will need to harness the full scope of his world-class ability if he is to lead the club back toward the light.
