Man City and Arsenal To Battle Over £34m Creative Genius

Arsenal and Manchester City are both targeting Michael Olise following the end of the 2022/23 Premier League season which saw Pep Guardiola's side lift the title.

City have officially won their first trophy of the season but still have their sights set on two more, the FA Cup and Champions League finals still to come on the 3rd and 10th of June respectively.

Transfer plans have already begun for the league champions and Michael Olise is one man under consideration for Man City.

What's the transfer latest news on Michael Olise to Man City?

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Arsenal and Manchester City have "great interest" in signing the Palace star. This season, he scored three goals and assisted 11, according to Transfermarkt and is now a target for the best teams in England.

Olise has four years remaining on his contract with Palace so the Eagles are well-placed to hold their ground in negotiations. Should Olise, leave he will command a transfer fee reportedly in the region of €40m (£34m), as per Konur.

Guardiola wants Olise to reinforce his midfield options with the Spaniard well-known for rotating his squad to ensure the team stays healthy. Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva could both leave the club this summer and so City are considering how to invest into their midfield.

Olise is seen by both Arsenal and Man City "clear about the player's qualities and are willing to make an economic effort to ensure his signing."

The midfielder and his "entourage" will ultimately decide where his career will go next.

How could Olise fit in at Man City?

21-year-old Olise is a promising player for the future but he has already demonstrated himself to be one of the most creative players in the Premier League.

Michael Olise

His 11 assists this campaign are the result of his consistent creativity and vision.

Data from Fbref shows that Olise was expected to be in the 85th percentile for assisted goals (xAG). In reality, he over-performed projections by reaching 11 assists, placing him in the 91st percentile for assists by an attacking midfielder or a winger.

Clubs like Arsenal and Man City, who employ data gurus to analyse potential transfer targets, will have been watching Olise this season and looking at the stats to back up their decision to pursue him.

Following their tense Premier League title battle, both clubs will be hoping for a win in the transfer market as well.

'Didn't expect the facilities to be as good' – Kumble

India coach Anil Kumble is “very impressed” with the facilities at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Florida, which is set to host two T20 internationals between West Indies and India over the weekend. This will be the first time India will be playing international matches in the USA. The Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, close to 50kms north of Miami, is the only ICC certified ODI standard stadium facility in the USA and hosted six Caribbean Premier League matches last month.”I certainly didn’t expect the facilities to be as good as what it is in the United States,” Kumble said in Lauderhill on Thursday. “I certainly felt that it could be a makeshift. I had heard about Florida and this ground, but very impressed with the facilities that we have seen today. It’s the first time that I’m seeing this ground and the wickets are good, ideal probably for a T20, and the practice facilities have been good, the outfield looks fantastic. So all in all, really impressed with the facilities here.”It’s a wonderful initiative and we are really looking forward to our matches here, it’s going to be a sell out. We know US…the expats and the huge Indian diaspora who are wanting for quality cricket to come to the US. We have played in the past in the West Indies and a lot of Indians come over form the US to watch us. So this is a great opportunity for all of them and I’m sure this is the start of a new beginning in the United States and I’m sure there will be a lot more of the Indian team in the US going forward.”The two-match series is going to be the first of what will develop into an annual event in the USA as part of efforts to “reach out to new markets and audiences,” BCCI president Anurag Thakur had said. The Indian squad arrived in Florida from the West Indies on Tuesday, before they were joined by T20 captain MS Dhoni and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah on Wednesday. Even though India won the Test series 2-0, the players from the Test squad are coming with hardly any recent match practice because of the rain-affected fourth Test in Port-of-Spain where the last four days didn’t see any play. Kumble was still optimistic about the confidence the team would carry from his first series as coach.”Of course the start [of coaching career] always makes it that much sweeter when you’ve had success and I can’t ask for a better set of players in terms of what I want from them,” Kumble said. “They are extremely committed, very disciplined and you tell them what you need and they are ready to put their hand up and do it.”This is the first time that I’ll be working with MS, obviously we have played together over a long period of time and we had a chat yesterday and today as well. I’m really looking forward to working with him and the new set of boys like Bumrah who’s joined as well. I’ve worked with him in the IPL so it’s nice to be a part of the India dressing room again.”Describing the shift from Tests to T20s mainly as a “mindset change”, Kumble was also aware of the change they may see in their opposition. Ranked eighth in the ICC Test rankings, West Indies are also the T20 champions and will play under a new captain, Carlos Brathwaite.”West Indies has always been a tough side, they are the T20 world champions,” Kumble said. “About the shift that we need to make from Test cricket to T20, the West Indies players may not have to do that because some of them are coming straight from the CPL. They are quality cricketers and have shown consistently how good they are and we had a tough match in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup as well. In terms of the quality that we are going to encounter, we are aware of that. It’s going to be a challenge and I think the Indian team has done really well over the last six months as a T20 side as well so that’s something that we are looking forward to.”The Central Broward Regional Park has previously hosted four T20Is – in 2010, New Zealand played two matches against Sri Lanka, and returned in 2012 for two games against West Indies.

Fit-again Mawoyo calls for more application from Zimbabwe's batsmen

Zimbabwe opener Tino Mawoyo, who has recovered from injury, has called for more grit from the batsmen, ahead of the side’s second Test against New Zealand in Bulawayo

Firdose Moonda in Bulawayo05-Aug-2016

Tino Mawoyo: “Realistically, to come out and say we’re going to win the next Test would not be honest. If we can go out there and improve on the things we have spoken out, we are going forward.”•Associated Press

While New Zealand took three days off and spent a night at a game farm – former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak’s game farm no less – Zimbabwe trained for three days and held a team dinner at what can safely be called Bulawayo’s best eatery. In the serene surrounds of 26 on Park – a restaurant converted from a family home on a massive plot in which a garden forms a green moat around a gabled mansion – they openly and honestly thrashed out their issues ahead of the second Test against New Zealand in Bulawayo.Between bites of thick-cut steaks, Zimbabwe, “spoke about where we feel we fell short in the last game and what we need to do to improve,” Tino Mawoyo, their opening batsman, said. “There were some encouraging things said to the up-and-coming youngsters from the senior guys, some good words from the coach to gee us up before the next game. Those kinds of things are important – doing things together a team.”As a Test team, Zimbabwe rarely even play together, and their lack of familiarity of the format, and each other, shows. Primarily, the top order’s inability to provide a platform has placed extra pressure on the rest of the line-up and it is the first thing Zimbabwe want to fix.”The guys have had a good look at how they got out and also had a good chance to look at New Zealand’s bowlers,” Mawoyo said. “There’s a little bit more grit needed, a little bit more application and being able to say to yourself, ‘let me go out there, suss out conditions and give myself a chance’.Easier said than done, especially against a New Zealand pace pack that attacks through movement and length. While Tim Southee and Trent Boult swing the ball, Neil Wagner brings a barrage of short balls, which test Zimbabwe’s technique. As Prince Masvaure suggested after the first day’s play in the first Test, the more Zimbabwe told themselves not to succumb to Wagner, the more they did, but Mawoyo explained they have worked on a better mental approach.”As the psychologists say, if you don’t want to do something, don’t say don’t. Find a better way of saying it which is probably, look to get under the ball. As we saw the captain in the second innings, and a little bit of Donald Tiripano earlier, they took it on the body,” Mawoyo said. “Saying don’t is something negative and the mind gravitates towards it naturally, but those chats have happened. Guys have done a little bit more work with the shorts ball in the nets. I think that’s something we will address a lot better in the second Test.”Mawoyo will have to walk that talk first. He has recovered from a thumb injury to take his place at the top of the order, and despite a week on the sidelines, believes he is ready. “I back my ability,” he said, a rare statement of self-belief from a Zimbabwe batsman, but one Mawoyo is justified in. His unbeaten 79 for Zimbabwe A in a draw against South Africa A last month is fresh in his mind and he hopes to take that determination into this Test.If he is able to, it will also be an act of leadership in a Zimbabwe team riddled with inexperience. Hamilton Masakadza’s injury-forced withdrawal has left Mawoyo as the most experienced batsman in the line-up, alongside Craig Ervine, with both having eight caps each to their name. Only captain Graeme Cremer, who has played 12 Tests, is more experienced. After handing out three new caps in the first Test, Zimbabwe could end up with another rookie in the second. PJ Moor, who scored a century and a fifty in two Logan Cup appearances last season, is likely to come into the starting XI and could even take the gloves from Regis Chakabva. Moor has shown promise for several years, including during a stint at South Africa’s University of Pretoria Academy, where he was in 2010. “It was obvious that he was going to play at a high level,” Pierre de Bruyn, who coached at the academy, told ESPNcricinfo. “He embraced every challenge in the academy year which is a very intense program, and what stood out was his work ethic, combined with very strong values.”Moor’s talent, like Masvaure’s, can only bloom in nurturing circumstances, and with so few fixtures in the Zimbabwe calendar, planning that way ahead may be too optimistic. That may be why Mawoyo offered nothing more than realistic expectations ahead of the second Test.”If we show improvement, we’ve done well. We’ve spoken about the top order probably not doing as well as they should have, the bowlers not striking as well as often as we would have liked them to,” he said. “Realistically, to come out and say we’re going to win the next Test would not be honest. If we can go out there and improve on the things we have spoken out, we are going forward.”

Journalist Shrugs Off "Ridiculous" Everton Transfer Claim

Everton re-signing former player James Rodriguez in the summer transfer window would be "ridiculous", according to journalist Paul Brown.

How did Rodriguez fare at Everton?

The 31-year-old made the surprise move to Goodison Park back in 2020, coming in as arguably one of the most high-profile signings in the Blues' history. After a bright start to life on Merseyside, his influence gradually diminished, however, with a combination of injuries and inconsistent form proving to be a problem for him.

In the end, Rodriguez only made 26 appearances for Everton, scoring six goals and registering nine assists, prior to joining Qatari side Al-Rayyan in 2021. The Colombian has been linked with a shock return to Goodison in recent days, with the Toffees touching based with intermediaries.

He is currently without a club, having seen his contract at Olympiakos terminated earlier this year, so he would be available on a free transfer.

Could Rodriguez make Blues return?

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Brown admitted that Rodriguez returning to Everton would not be a good idea, mainly because of his physical limitations:

"Now the player is even older, hasn't exactly been ripping it up in the leagues he's played in since, and doesn't suggest that his body has performed any kind of remarkable transformation, I think it would be a ridiculous idea for Everton to try and bring him back."

Brown is spot on in his assessment here, with Rodriguez someone who Everton shouldn't even consider going near once this season reaches its conclusion. There is no denying his talent as a footballer – he was once hailed as "world-class" by Alvaro Arbeloa – but his best days are long behind, hence the situation he finds himself in.

The Blues would be far better off looking to sign younger players who are more likely to possess a strong work ethic and buy into Sean Dyche's style of play, rather than a potential luxury addition who is often out injured. Not only that, but the 90-cap Colombia international would also likely demand high wages, at a time when Everton aren't exactly in the strongest financial position they have ever been in.

It is a move that simply has too many negatives to it, and while some Blues supporters may still like the idea of Rodriguez returning to the club, given his natural ability, it is a transfer that would likely end in tears for all concerned.

Taskin, Sunny hopeful of positive outcome ahead of tests in Brisbane

Bangladesh bowlers Arafat Sunny and Taskin Ahmed expressed hope that their bowling actions would be cleared after testing at the ICC-accredited Brisbane National Cricket Centre

ESPNcricinfo staff05-Sep-2016Bangladesh bowlers Arafat Sunny and Taskin Ahmed expressed hope that their bowling actions would be cleared as they departed for Brisbane to undergo testing at the ICC-accredited Brisbane National Cricket Centre. Both bowlers were suspended from bowling in international cricket during the World T20 earlier this year. The duo, who will be accompanied by Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, will have a couple of days to train ahead of their tests on September 8. Taskin is set to appear for the biomechanics test at 10am, while Sunny will undergo his test at 2pm.The results of the tests will be made available within ten to twelve days, giving both bowlers the hope of appearing for Bangladesh in the upcoming series against Afghanistan and England.”We have been toiling hard for the last few months,” Sunny said. “The review committee, our coaching staff and team-mates have all inspired us. Our bowling actions are better. But there will be pressure as it is indeed a matter of an examination. Hopefully, if we can do our work properly, we will come back to international cricket.”Taskin struck a more upbeat note, and hoped the hard work he had put in since April would pay off.”We are going with a positive mindset,” Taskin said. “We are, of course, excited and optimistic that we will come back with positive results. We seek everyone’s blessings so that we can return to international cricket from the next home series. I believe we have put enough effort in the last four to five months.”The coach and local experts have supported us. In the last four months, [Mahbub Ali] Zaki sir worked with me. Our head coach will be there with us. Hopefully it will give additional inspiration. The senior players also supported us mentally. We will breeze through the test if the blessings from all are with us.”Taskin and Sunny were both reported for suspect bowling actions during the World T20, and were suspended following a test at an ICC-accredited centre in Chennai.

Sunderland Eyeing Deal To Sign "Sublime" Midfielder For Free

Sunderland are keen on a deal to bring Glasgow Rangers midfielder Charlie Lindsay to the Championship, according to reports.

Who is Charlie Lindsay?

Lindsay initially joined the Ibrox outfit’s U18s back in 2020 and has since worked his way up through the youth ranks to become a regular feature of the Scottish giants’ B side, but having made zero senior first-team appearances under Michael Beale, as per Transfermarkt, his future is up in the air.

The Northern Irishman’s deal is also set to expire at the end of the season meaning that he will become a free agent on the market should he not be offered an extension, which at this stage, is looking highly likely to be the case.

The Black Cats have Alex Pritchard who will be out of contract in the summer, and having been linked with a move to Stoke City to reunite with Alex Neil, should he depart, the 19-year-old attacking midfielder appears to have been identified as a possible replacement by Tony Mowbray.

Are Sunderland signing Lindsay?

According to the Daily Record (via Football League World), Sunderland and Derby County are both “interested” in recruiting Lindsay ahead of the 2023/24 term. The Light Blues starlet is indeed “set to leave” the Glasgow outfit upon the conclusion of the current campaign. It’s believed that he is personally “keen” on securing a permanent move elsewhere in the hope of receiving regular game time at a higher level and getting sufficient minutes under his belt to progress his career to the next stage.

Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray.

Sunderland’s 3-2 aggregate play-off defeat to Luton Town means that they can now focus on signing fresh faces to get them competing at the top end of the table again next season, and the fact that Lindsay would cost nothing means that this is a move that is relatively risk-free.

In the Lowland League this season, the Belfast native has clocked up an impressive 18 goal contributions (12 goals and six assists) in 33 appearances, form which has seen him hailed “sublime” by Scottish football reporter Jordan Campbell.

Finally, Lindsay, who is a versatile operator at such a young age with his ability to play in four various positions across the pitch, shares the same agent as Anthony Patterson, Trai Hume and Patrick Roberts, so this existing representative connection could potentially give the hierarchy an advantage in the race to secure their target’s services in the weeks ahead.

Leeds Could Ditch Bamford For ‘Fantastic’ £15k-p/w Signing

Leeds United may not know for sure which division they will be in next season but that has not stopped the Yorkshire outfit from identifying some transfer targets from the upcoming window.

One man who has been linked with a move to Elland Road, having previously been touted as an option in January, is Southampton striker Che Adams.

Could Leeds United sign Che Adams?

According to TEAMtalk, both Everton and Leeds remain keen on signing the Scotland international this summer, and the Saints could be forced to cash in as Adams has just one year left on his contract with the south coast club.

Transfermarkt values the £30k-per-week forward at just €22m (£19m), which could represent an affordable fee for Leeds this summer, especially if they are forced to cash in on key attackers such as Rodrigo and Wilfried Gnonto.

While the 26-year-old is said to be keen on earning a move back to the Premier League following Southampton's relegation, he could be a superb option for Leeds to have in the Championship next season given his previous performances in the second tier.

Would Adams be a good signing for Leeds?

While Adams has never been prolific in the Premier League, contributing just 25 top-flight goals across his four seasons with the Saints, his last campaign in the Championship was a superb one, as he hit 22 goals for Birmingham City.

Therefore, he clearly has what it takes to be a consistent goalscorer at that level and could help to fire Leeds back to the Premier League, should they suffer relegation against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Adams wouldn't just provide goals at Elland Road, however, as his work rate and attitude have often been commended during his time at Southampton, with former manager Ralph Hasenhuttl singing his praises amid a difficult run of form in 2020.

The ex-Saints boss said: “He is a guy who is one day a little bit frustrated when he sees he doesn’t play but then when the game comes, he shows up immediately and this is fantastic."

Even playing in a Southampton side that is destined to finish rock bottom of the Premier League this season, Adams has still managed more league goals (five) than Patrick Bamford (four), which suggests that he could be the man to finally oust the injury-prone Englishman at Elland Road.

patrick-bamford-leeds-united

Although the former Chelsea man was seen as a hero at Leeds for his performances under Marcelo Bielsa in the title-winning campaign and subsequent Premier League season, injuries have taken their toll on the 29-year-old.

His finishing is nowhere near the level it used to be, with Understat suggesting that he has underperformed by a remarkable 5.77 goals in the top flight this term – goals which might have been enough to keep Leeds up.

Therefore, the arrival of a seasoned striker such as Adams could just be the catalyst needed to see Bamford finally move on from Elland Road this summer.

Porterfield wants good cricket for 100 overs

There is losing, and then there is being completely and totally outplayed. For the last three times that Ireland have played ODIs against Full Members, it has been the latter. They were beaten by 255 runs by Pakistan, and before that, by 136 runs and 76 runs by Sri Lanka, making for grim reading. However, William Porterfield, their captain, managed to find the positives.”We’ve done a lot of things well for 80 to 85 overs in a lot of those games,” Porterfield said. “Against Pakistan, we pretty much had an off day, and Sharjeel (Khan) had a very good day. He was the big difference in the game. If we kept him out of it, it would have been a decent enough contest. We probably lost the Sri Lanka game in seven or eight overs on the field. Those things can happen if you’re not right on it.”Realistically, that is a generous analysis. Sharjeel’s 152 off 86 balls accounted for almost half of Pakistan’s total of 337, but even if he had been kept quiet, Ireland only managed 82 in response. Similarly, they were unable to muster strong replies against Sri Lanka after conceding heavily in both the matches they played in June. The real reason for Ireland’s recent struggles may lie a little deeper, and Porterfield was willing to acknowledge that. “The biggest thing for ourselves was that we had quite a few debutants in those games, especially with our bowling attack, and the experience they have taken from that is going to be key.”Against Sri Lanka, Barry McCarthy earned his first cap to join a young pace pack that included Andy McBrine, who has played 16 ODIs, and Max Sorensen, who has 13 ODIs to his name. Add that to new faces in the batting line-up such as Stuart Poynter and Sean Terry, and you have a team in a transition of sorts, which makes the dip in consistency understandable. That makes it particularly important for Ireland’s stalwarts like Porterfield and the O’Brien brothers to perform well in the two matches in South Africa, but even more important that Tim Murtagh provides influence and inspiration through his presence. Murtagh joined the squad early on Saturday morning after winning the county championship with Middlesex, and Ireland will see the value of having someone with that success.Whether Murtagh plays the first game remains to be seen, especially as he would only have had little more than 24 hours of recovery time, but simply having him around will boost Irish spirits. “He is here today, training,” Porterfield said, his tone notably lighter than when he was dissecting Ireland’s last few performances. “He has got 20 years of experience behind him, so he knows what he needs to do and how his body is going to feel, and he will be pretty open and honest himself, how he is feeling.”How Ireland are feeling is also transparent. They are both nervous and excited at the possibilities that lie ahead in the next four days, and they are determined to make the most of them, so that they can be asked back to these shores in future. “Having the opportunity to come to South Africa and play them in their own backyard, and to play the world champions – Ireland play Australia in a one-off ODI after the South Africa match – in different conditions is what we have been building towards,” Porterfield said. “We’ve got to keep improving and keep putting in performances to merit the games that we get. We’re not here to just make up numbers for a couple of games, but we are here to win games of cricket.”

Tottenham: Spurs Really Consider "Superb" Ange Alternative

Tottenham chiefs have “strongly considered” former Brighton manager Graham Potter to succeed Antonio Conte, according to reports.

Who could be the next Spurs manager?

Spurs are still on the look out for a permanent head coach over two months after parting company with Conte, and the search is becoming dangerously similar to that of their hunt for Jose Mourinho’s replacement in 2021.

It took Tottenham 72 days to eventually land on Nuno Espirito Santo, who lasted just months before Conte stepped into the Portuguese’s shoes, and chairman Daniel Levy will be desperate to avoid a repeat of that fiasco.

The north Londoners could also be in real danger of falling behind in the summer transfer market, with reports suggesting that Premier League rivals are far ahead of Spurs in their planning for the window.

Currently, there are a good few names who could clinch the Tottenham hot seat, perhaps most notably Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou – who has emerged as a favourite in recent days.

As well as the Australian, it is believed that Spurs have been keeping tabs on the likes of Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton, former Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers and Potter among others.

Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka with former boss Graham Potter.

In terms of the latter coach, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham after his Chelsea sacking, reporter Miguel Delaney has shared an update on the Englishman.

Writing for The Independent, he claims Spurs chiefs have “strongly considered” a move for Potter, who is seen as easier to acquire than the likes of De Zerbi.

The 48-year-old, who had previously recorded Brighton’s highest ever Premier League finish of ninth before De Zerbi broke it last season, is readily-available for hire as a free agent – not to mention as a potential Postecoglou alternative.

Potter had wanted to take time out from football, but according to Delaney, he is “willing to listen to the right offer” from any interested side.

Crystal Palace are thought to be making overtures, so if Spurs are seriously interested, they may need to follow it up fairly quickly.

Who is Graham Potter?

Branded a “superb manager” by members of the media like Sky’s Melissa Reddy, Potter has also been praised by elite counterparts like Man City boss Pep Guardiola.

“I know in big clubs, results are important but I’d say give him time,” said Guardiola on Potter during his time at Chelsea.

“The second half is what he is. What he’s done at Brighton is outstanding, but…we need time in the first season.

I had (Lionel) Messi in Barcelona my first season so I didn’t need two seasons because Messi was there.”

Having been praised for his brilliant past work at Brighton on limited resources, we believe Potter could be an intriguing option for Spurs.

The former Ostersunds boss, interestingly, also shares the same agent as Clement Lenglet.
