Pushing to land another important attacking addition, West Ham United are now reportedly leading the bidding war to sign a Serie A star for Graham Potter.

Whilst pre-season is built around shaking off any rust with results for once of secondary importance, there’s no doubt that it still would have felt satisfying to defeat Everton in the Premier League Summer Series. And what made West Ham’s 2-1 victory even better was the winning goal from struggling striker Niclas Fullkrug.

The former Borussia Dortmund star endured a debut campaign to forget at the London Stadium, but could yet become a key man under Potter if he rediscovers his clinical nature in front of goal.

Fullkrug is certainly in a positive mood ahead of his first full season under Potter’s management too, having told West Ham’s official website following the Everton game: “The coach (Graham Potter) works with us not only on the pitch, but also to be a better group, to be a team and to be a family.

“We’re all enjoying our time together – in London, in Germany and now here in the US – and we’re starting to see the impact of what we’ve been doing. On the pitch, I think we’ve improved a lot.

“We still have work to do and not everything will be perfect right now, so we have to be patient. But I think we’re seeing what we’ve been working on all coming together.”

As the experienced forward said, however, nothing is perfect quite yet and that perfection could yet come courtesy of the transfer window. Having struggled to find a source for goals in large parts of last season, the Hammers are still reportedly on the hunt for a fresh No.9.

West Ham now leading Piccoli bidding war

According to TuttoCagliari, as relayed by Sport Witness, West Ham are now leading the bidding war to sign Roberto Piccoli from Cagliari this summer. Sporting director and club legend Mark Noble, alongside the rest of his team, has reportedly intensified West Ham’s contact with the Serie A club as they look to welcome the forward in a deal worth around €25m (£21m).

Whilst there will be some concerns about how Piccoli underperformed in expected output, the forward still managed to reach double figures for goals in Serie A last season and West Ham could have done with those goals.

At just £21m too, if the Hammers can discover the 24-year-old’s clinical side, then pursuing a deal for his signature would quickly prove to be worthwhile alongside the already-arrived El Hadji Malick Diouf.

Despite welcoming as many as six fresh faces following another dominant Scottish Premiership campaign last time out, Rodgers admitted that he’s still pushing the Celtic board to secure more additions.

He told reporters: “We have gaps in the squad that are very clear. I have to convince the board to really push to get the players in that we really need. “When you lose important players, you want to fill those gaps. That attacking department is the strength of my team. It always will be. We were very, very good last year in that front in terms of both the score and both the creativity.

“I’m fairly confident that we will do the business that will fill those gaps and with the necessary quality that’s needed to keep the team moving forward, because that’s what we all want. That’s what the supporters want. They want to see a team that’s exciting and that can dominate games and really attack games and that’s our goal.”

Just who those additions will be is the question. It looks as though the Bhoys are at least set to welcome Manchester City youngster Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on loan, but that’s not to say other targets have fallen away from their radar.

Those at Celtic Park have also reportedly set their sights on winning the race to land a bargain deal in the next month and Rodgers believes that they hold one key advantage over the rest of the chasing pack.

According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Rodgers believes that Celtic have the advantage in the race to sign Josh Brownhill this summer thanks to their Champions League place. وبشأن إصابة لاعبه جيوفاني ليوني خلال المباراة، أوضح سلوت: “بالطبع، هو متعب لأنه لم يشعر بالراحة فورًا، لكن هذا أمر علينا تقييمه الآن”.

وواصل: “عادةً لا تحدث هذه الأمور في غضون خمس إلى عشر دقائق، وعلينا الانتظار حتى الغد لمعرفة حالته، ثم ربما إجراء فحص بالرنين المغناطيسي لمعرفة مدى خطورة الإصابة”.

وأتم: “عادةً ما تخبرنا مشاعر اللاعب بالكثير، رأيت خلال عطلة نهاية الأسبوع لاعبًا في الدوري الهولندي الممتاز انفجر باكيًا، بالمناسبة، روبن فان بوميل، لاعب آيندهوفن، وبعد يوم واحد ثبت صحة كلامه، دعونا نأمل الأفضل”.

It’s not been a summer full of headlines at the London Stadium, but the Hammers have still welcomed a number of solid additions. El Hadji Malick Diouf, Kyle-Walker Peters, Mads Hermansen and Callum Wilson have all arrived to hand Graham Potter a much-needed boost across the squad as he looks to turn what has been a difficult start at West Ham around.

With just two weeks left until the transfer window slams shut, though, there’s still work to be done. Potter’s side are arguably still short in a number of areas and, as such, targets like Aleix Garcia and Lorenzo Pellegrini could still arrive.

Garcia is a particularly interesting target. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder spent time at Manchester City in the early stages of his career, before eventually working his way back to the top level to join Leverkusen last summer. Now, just one year on from that move, the midfielder has done enough to attract the interest of West Ham.

Of course, however, he’s not the only one on the Hammers’ reported radar. Harvey Elliott has been linked with a move away from Liverpool all summer long, and he remains without a move. Among those interested in the England U21 international, West Ham could yet look to complete a late swoop.

The same can be said for another impressive talent, with those at the London Stadium now reportedly ready to increase their efforts in pursuit of his signature.

That said, it won’t be an easy deal to pull off. There are already reportedly concerns at West Ham that they won’t be in a strong enough position to turn El Khannouss’ head away from other clubs this month and there are reservations over their ability to even afford the deal.

Alas, what they should not be concerned about is the midfielder’s ability, given that Aaron Wan-Bissaka saw it first-hand when El-Khannouss scored and assisted in a 3-1 victory over West Ham last season. In a one-on-one battle against the Leicester man, Wan-Bissaka suffered a rare defeat.

Praised for that “great performance” by then-manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, El Khannouss left Wan-Bissaka guessing all game long in a decisive display which proved his Premier League quality.

There are plenty of reservations over their ability to get the deal done, but West Ham should push as far as they can to sign the Leicester star before the end of the month.
